Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy (Switch, PC)

Waifu?  What’s that?  Isn’t that what you hook your Internet up to?  Nah, just joking, I know what that word means.  It’s like a pretend girlfriend or something, I think.  Anyway, fasten your seatbelts, folks, because I think this may be one of the weirdest (and most adult) 2-D shooters I’ve ever played.  In a fantasy world, warrior and wizard ladies have put on cursed armor and now they need to get it off.  So an old lady summons a spaceship from a shooter game and shrinks it down to shoot away the curses and remove the evil armor.  Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy is available on Switch and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.

The main game plays like any other shooter.  Hold down the fire button to shoot anything that moves, and avoid all the cute enemies and their projectiles.  You have a life meter and if you get hit too many times, it’s Game Over.  As you are playing, in the background they show a large still picture of the lady you’re trying to rescue from her cursed armor.

Defeated enemies will leave behind one of three things.  Coins which can be used to buy power-ups in a shop between stages.  On very rare occasions, enemies may drop these power-ups as well.  But the thing you’ll collect the most are crystals.  When you fly over one, it’ll jet down like a missile and hit one of the pieces of armor.  When enough of these crystals do that, that piece of armor will disappear and you’ll get a heart and move onto the next wave of enemies.  When you are successful in removing all the armor, you’ll fight a boss and finish the stage.

The game has a beginner mode and a harder arcade mode.  There is also a one handed mode you can unlock.  My naïve overly positive mind makes me want to think it’s for people with disabilities who can only play with one hand, but I’m afraid it’s probably for something else.  Hopefully as a joke.  You can also view the various damsels and their outfits in a gallery.  While I can appreciate the uniqueness of this game, it’s definitely not appropriate for many folks.

Kid Factor:

Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy is rated M for Mature with ESRB descriptors of Blood, Violence, Sexual Themes, and Nudity.  Didn’t really notice too much blood, and you shoot cartoony enemies so there’s the violence.  Of course there are sexual themes but I didn’t see the characters get completely undressed.  Unless they do in a harder mode or something.  While it’s hard for me to go completely ballistic on this game because it’s just cartoon characters and is presented in that campy anime style, this game is still definitely for adults only.
