Mastho is Together (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)

According to the press release for this game, you are a sugar-free marshmallow.  Wait, does such a thing exist?  Aren’t marshmallows just pure sugar?  Well after doing a search, apparently they do exist.  Who says video games don’t teach you anything?  Anyway, in this game all you see of yourself is a white square and you must travel through single screen super challenging levels in this 2-D minimalistic platformer.  It’s available on nearly all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

Each level is a single screen with spiked lined walls and other obstacles.  Your goal is to make it to a blue dot somewhere in the level.  Sometimes there are one or two checkpoints in a level.  Considering that each stage is a single screen, that tells you how hard it is!  Your white square of a marshmallow can hop, jump-climb up walls like Mega Man X, and do a single dash in any direction per jump.  You’ll have to use all these skills with precise perfection to win.  Luckily you get unlimited tries!  My main problem with this game is that it’s just too darn hard.  I couldn’t even get past level 8, and I think there are 40 levels in all!  But if you enjoy torturing yourself with games like Super Meat Boy, you may want to check this one out.

Kid Factor:

Mastho is Together is rated E for Everyone with an ESRB descriptor of Mild Fantasy Violence.  If you get hit by an obstacle, your white square just crumbles into a bunch of little white squares, but that’s about as violent as it gets.  Reading skill is helpful for the text, and younger gamers may find it too difficult.
