Arsonist Heaven (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S)

You are a dude in a fire retardant hazmat suit and you must go around burning up all the monsters in a level.  Armed with a flamethrower and a jetpack, you’ll tromp around 2-D scrolling stages with retro pixel graphics.  Arsonist Heaven is available on all current consoles, but reviewed on PS4 here.

You move around with the left stick and fire your flamethrower with the X button.  After a while you must reload with the square button.  Press another button to jump, and press it again in midair to activate your jetpack to give you a boost.  But you must wait a bit afterward for your jetpack to recharge.  You’ll finish the level when all monsters are defeated.  Pickups include refills for your ammo and jetpack as well as health.

I liked the retro pixel graphics but that’s about it.  Enemies move more than twice as fast as you do and it takes way too long to reload.  Menu navigation is clunky and the game didn’t want to save when I was finished.  I think the game would be a lot more fun if it were faster paced and not so brutally hard.

Kid Factor:

Arsonist Heaven is rated E-10 with ESRB descriptors of Fantasy Violence and Mild Blood.  You shoot a flamethrower at ugly monsters that burn and explode when defeated.  When you run out of energy you can see pixelly blood all over you.  Reading skill is needed for the text, and younger gamers may find this too difficult.
