Super Mario Bros. Movie Toys in McDonald’s Happy Meals!
McDonald’s had Super Mario Bros. Movie toys in their Happy Meals in January, which is kind of weird since the actual movie doesn’t come out until April. At any rate, I got a few of them, so let’s take a look!
Here’s a bigger picture of the Happy Meal box. It’s nice to see they still put these in boxes with the arch handles like they did when I was a kid.
Here’s a picture of the sign out by the drive thru that showed all the toys. I wish I could’ve gotten them all, but that’s pretty hard to do.
And here are the toys I got. I’m glad I at least got Toad in the monster truck and Luigi, since those are my favorite Mario characters.
Toad just rolls. Luigi just snaps back around when you twist him. He’s holding a flashlight, but it doesn’t light up or anything. I think that would’ve been cooler. Bowser’s looking a little chunky and I’m disappointed they didn’t bother finishing painting his green spiked shell. He’s supposed to shoot the fire breath projectile out of his mouth, but I can’t figure out how to do it. The blue star guy just twirls around when you move a dial on the bottom. The blue star guy has caused a lot of speculation because he looks like a character from Mario Galaxy, but they haven’t announced any Galaxy characters, like Rosalina, in the voice cast yet.
And those are the Mario Movie Happy Meal toys! Again, I think it’s weird they had these out in January even though the movie doesn’t come until April. I have a feeling it has to do with McDonald’s saying they’re stopping making plastic Happy Meal toys this year. I guess that’s good for the environment, but that also means future Happy Meal toys are gonna suck!
So am I excited for the Mario movie? Well, I do think there are better Nintendo franchises I’d rather see in a movie. Heck, I think Luigi’s Mansion would make for a better movie than a generic Mario Bros. one. But I’ll definitely see this movie in theaters anyway. I’m not too thrilled with some of the voice cast, like Chris Pratt as Mario. But then, I also don’t think Charles Martinet’s high pitched voice could carry a whole movie either. The Mario voice I was most used to was Capt. Lou Albano. But I won’t complain about it any more because I will say that this new movie looks a HECK of a lot better than the last Mario movie we got. You know, the live action one? I’m used to seeing bad movies and MST3K is my number one favorite show, but I couldn’t sit through five minutes of that live action one. Blech. Kids today don’t know how good they have it now! Anyway, that’s all for now! Later! –Cary

What! No more Happy Meal toys? Oh well.
I got the blue star guy and Peach. Bowser would’ve been clutch though. Maybe I’ll see one at a Goodwill. I’ve noticed Goodwill selling old Happy Meal toys.
