1 CatLine (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)

Help a kid get to what I assume is a bag of French fries, in this single screen platform puzzler.  You have help in the form of a magical kitten who can fly nearly anywhere on the screen and can be used to push blocks and climb on.  The game kind of reminds me of BoxBoy, although not near as good, but also a game I reviewed a few years ago called Two Dee and Topdee.  1 CatLine is available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

As the kid, you can run and jump and push blocks on the ground, and that’s it.  When you push the square button, you can switch over to the cat and move it in any direction.  The cat is shaped like a few square blocks, and by placing the cat correctly, you can walk on it and climb it.  The cat can also push certain blocks and switches.  It’s kind of like you are switching from a 2D view to a top down view.  Also if you mess up, you can just press the triangle button to start the level again.

Really the only problem I had with this game is a minor one.  The placing of the cat can be a bit persnickety, and you may need to constantly switch back and forth to get it where you need it just right.  There are only 50 levels, too, so it’s a bit short, but it does get a bit tricky after the last ten or so levels.  Otherwise, it’s a pretty decent simple little puzzler.

Kid Factor:

Nothing violent or objectionable here.  If you fall off the ledges, you just warp back to the start.  Reading skill is helpful for some of the text, and younger gamers may need help with the tougher puzzles.  It could be considered somewhat educational as you use logic and thinking skills.1 CatLine is rated E for Everyone.
