Ugly Americans is a popular adult cartoon on Comedy Central. The show takes place in an alternate version of New York where monsters, demons, and zombies co-exist with humans. Now, mature fans of the show can enjoy a downloadable video game (360 version reviewed here) with Ugly Americans: Apocolypsegeddon.
Last year, NIS America released Cladun, a downloadable dungeon crawler on PSP with classic game visuals and tendencies (Cladun actually means ‘Classic Dungeon). Now they’ve followed it up with Cladun x2, and while it’s just more of the same, you get more dungeons, more monsters, more treasures, and just more Cladun gameplay overall.
In Crazy Machines Elements, a downloadable game for Xbox LIVE, you’re tasked with building Rube Goldberg-styled devices to perform a task. You’re given a set number of materials, anything from blocks, ropes, fuses, gears, trolleys, kettles, and other crazy tools. Then you must place them strategically and put the contraption in motion to achieve a goal. If this sounds anything like the classic PC game The Incredible Machine, that’s because it is. Except Crazy Machines Elements has physics-based 3-D graphics, more puzzles and materials, and console-friendly controls.
SNK Playmore recently released two more downloadable Neo Geo classics for PS3 and PSP. The new entries are World Heroes, a one-on-one fighting game, and Shock Troopers, a top-down run and gun action shooter (PS3 versions reviewed here).
About a month ago, Twisted Pixel released Ms. ‘Splosion Man, a sequel to the hit Xbox LIVE game ‘Splosion Man that featured more 2-D platforming exploding action. Now, Twisted Pixel and Zen Studios, makers of Pinball FX2, have teamed up to bring you Ms. ‘Splosion Man Pinball!
The final day of PAX was just for some last-minute meetings and tying up loose ends, as we had to leave a little early for the trip home. So here are some final thoughts on the last day of the show. Boy am I tired! Oh yeah, over on the right, that’s a picture of our view of Seattle from our hotel room. Pretty nice, huh?
On Day 2 of PAX, I had meetings with Sega, Twisted Pixel, Wizards of the Coast, and others. I discovered that the best part of Nintendo’s booth wasn’t even in their booth at all! PAX, or Penny Arcade Expo, is a three-day video game convention open to the public. It was started by the folks who made the Penny Arcade Web comic. They have two a year, one in Boston and one in Seattle. This last weekend was the PAX in Seattle. As I’ve done now for four years, I went to the show in Seattle and this time I brought along my brother Jeff and we had a lot of fun! Football season is fast approaching, so it’s time to get out your jerseys, your footballs, leashes, water bowls, chew bones, flea spray, and pooper scoopers. Wait…what? Yup, it’s time for Jerry Rice and Nitus’ Dog Football for Nintendo Wii. Hey wait a minute. Dog Football? Really? Dog Football?!? Yup, it’s a family oriented football game featuring canine athletes.
Man, August has been a S-L-O-W month for games! I hardly reviewed anything new this month! But looking forward into the fall season, starting around my birthday, there are tons of games coming out in time for the holidays.
