Do you like words? Do you remember Mastermind? Does 6-letter word puzzle sound like a lot of fun? Well it kind of is. The game is catnip for a certain kind of gamer – it’s also as educational as they come – AND it has has a neat art aesthetic… but ultimately it’s only Wordmaster. Here’s the content review.

Well, summer’s almost over. This summer I watched a lot of movies in the theater. Last summer I hardly watched any movies at all because they all kinda sucked. But this year it seemed there was a lot of flicks worth watching on the big screen in comparison. So I thought today I’d write a little blog with brief reviews of all the movies I’ve seen this summer, and give out a Best Summer Movie award! Unplugged: Dungeons and Dragons, 4th Edition

Almost exactly one year ago, Wizards of the Coast took the GenCon game convention by storm by announcing a new overhaul of the most popular role playing game on the planet Dungeons and Dragons was being revised to a fourth edition. The core rulebooks were released to the public in June and after several months of play, the consensus among fans seems to indicate that change is a good thing.
PAX with Children

I’ve gotten several emails and a comment here from people who want to attend PAX but have very small children. The advice I’d recently posted is aimed for the non-gamer parent who had been dragged through the doors by their teen/tween and didn’t know what to do.
My gang is way past the age of having to worry about, and my solution when they were that age was to stay home. That said, they were that age back in 1990 or so and things have changed a bit since then. I have some very general advice but I put out a call to some experts, the Penny Arcade Enforcers, and got a few pointers. more…
Madden ’08 – Favre & the Cover Curse

I’m staring at good old Brett Favre on the cover of Madden ’09,- mercifully still in a Packer uniform (thankfully the trade came late). Brett Favre and the Packers haven’t graced a video game cover since NFL QB Club ’98 featured Favre. 10 years. I’ve enjoyed 16 years of Brett as a Packer and yeah, I really wish things had turned out differently. Seems to me the bumpkin butted against a couple of Poker players who then – misunderestimating the man – overplayed their hand. more…

One of the best times for this is when we are on vacation, as we always seem to have dead time and plenty of travel time.
