Pixar is back with its latest animated movie and the obligatory video game tie in showed up at my doorstep recently. Brave makes for a pretty decent video game tie-in. It boils down to an exploration/platforming game, with a bit of fighting and puzzle-solving along the way. Pleasant graphics, 2-Player options, and RPG-like upgradeable abilities add to make this a recommended game for family play. Details after the jump…

Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland (PS3)

Princess Meruru rules over a rural kingdom but secretly wants to be an alchemist. Her father the king forbids it, but after some convincing, gives her a chance. If she can use her alchemy skills to improve the kingdom in three years, he’ll let her be a full-fledged alchemist. Help Meruru reach her dream in this RPG that has a strong emphasis of item synthesis and time management. It’s the third in a series of Atelier games on the PS3, but while fans will recognize familiar reoccurring characters, newcomers can play it just fine without any previous knowledge of the series.

One of the most beloved cult classic (yet hard to find) original PlayStation games is now available to download on the PlayStation store! And it’s one of my personal favorites, too! Such a great deal at only ten bucks, especially when you see how much the original disc cost now. Seriously, after reading this review, go look up Tomba on Amazon.com. YOWZA! Anyway, in the game, play as Tomba, a pink-haired jungle boy who had his grandfather’s golden bracelet stolen by some evil pigs. Now Tomba must stop the sinister swine from using gold to fuel their magic in this 2-D platforming adventure.

Mad Dog McCree (3DS)

Back in the 1990’s, arcade game makers were trying everything to lasso in new quarters. You had hologram fighters, theater sized blast-fests, and even full-motion video laser disc shooters. Such as Mad Dog McCree, an often-seen Old West styled light gun game (if it wasn’t popular, it sure was in a lot of arcades back then anyway). It may be cheesy, but it still amazes me that only 20 years later, a huge arcade machine can now be played in the palm of your hand. And such is the case with Mad Dog McCree, now available to download on the 3DS Nintendo eShop.
iCarly: Groovy Foodie (DS)

iCarly is one of Nickelodeon’s most popular shows for tweens, and now fans can help Carly and her friends serve crazy foods to cantankerous customers in iCarly: Groovy Foodie. Carly and pals are performing community service around famous locations from the TV show by cooking and serving food. The dishes and patrons are as crazy and random as the show, so they’ll need your help, too!
Men in Black: Alien Crisis (PS3, 360, Wii)

Just in time for the release of the recent Men in Black 3 summer movie comes MIB: Alien Crisis. This new game isn’t based on the film, but it does feature favorite characters from the series. Play as an artifact thief turned MIB agent who gets caught up in an alien conspiracy and must use his shooting skills to save the world from alien conquest. Alien Crisis plays like an on-rails shooter comparable to what you’d find in the arcade. In fact, they probably named it Alien Crisis on purpose, as it’s similar to another popular arcade shooter called Time Crisis (360 version reviewed here).
