Game Review: Marvel Pinball: Captain America (PSN, 360)

What better way to spend the upcoming 4th of July than with an American hero in an American game? Marvel Pinball: Captain America pits the famous WWII superhero against Baron Zemo and the Red Skull in a table that may be the best Marvel Pinball game yet. It’ll be available this week on Xbox 360 LIVE and PSN (360 version reviewed here).

The Mini-Games of Wii Play Motion

Everyone’s talking about 3D Zelda this and 3D Zelda that, but everyone forgets that Nintendo just released another game for the Wii recently: Wii Play Motion. It’s like a sequel to Wii Play, except the games this time take advantage of the Wii Motion Plus controller, which offers more one to one movements. In fact, the game even comes packaged with a Wii Motion Plus controller, much like how the original Wii Play came with a regular Wii remote. Also just like the first Wii Play, this one has several mini-games that nearly anyone can jump right in and enjoy, so here’s a blog briefly describing each one of those games!

Child of Eden – 1st Impression

I love Child of Eden. Love it. I’ve always respected the artist behind it, I enjoyed Rez (though I think my wife enjoyed that more) but Child of Eden, with the Kinect mind you, is a powerful and exhausting experience. More later, but if you like a bit of rhythm, music and spectacular visuals. If you like controlling guns with a wave of your hand. I can’t comment about the controller option, but with Kinect, I also don’t really see the point. Kids? I recommend this for 13+ or maybe a bit younger if the child isn’t easily frustrated. This is a short game, but a very challenging one. More later….

Game Review: Wipeout: In the Zone (Xbox 360 Kinect)

ABC’s hit game show Wipeout pits contestants to run a super challenging obstacle course for cash and prizes. Now fans of the show can literally jump into the action and run the courses themselves with Wipeout: In the Zone for Xbox 360 Kinect.

Game Review: Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls (PS3)

Before there was Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Even before Ultima (I think) there was Wizardry, one of the first role-playing video games in history. Despite its steep challenge and learning curve, Wizardry acquired quite a cult following worldwide. Now you can experience all the old school RPG-ness with Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls for download on PS3.

LA Noire

Rockstar Games, the company so rich and powerful they feel they can add an “e” to the end of a perfectly good French word like “Noir” just because they feel like it, has done it again. Redefined the action/adventure sandbox game. The game is amazing and one I will remember fondly for a long time but LA Noire is a flawed gem. After a torturous development process, Rockstar polished it up and shipped it out and created what amounts to a faithfully noir police procedural hampered by an ill-executed overarching story. CSI was the direction to go, because the crime is the thing.

Cary’s Return to E3: Day 2

OK Activision, you send me this little Spyro figure a few days before E3 and tell me to bring it with me? Oh great, another thing to have to remember to pack! Ha ha! Just joking! I didn’t mind bringing it with me. So what’s the significance of this little Spyro toy? Cary’s Return to E3: Day 1

Well another E3 has come and gone. The Electronic Entertainment Expo is the largest trade show for the video game industry, and since I went this year, here’s my coverage of it! Now, I’m going to do things a bit differently for my articles. Most of the hardcore gaming sites out there have already covered the popular and mainstream games. But I never see any coverage of some of the smaller games and family-friendly titles. So since that’s where my interests lie, and since this site is called GamingWithChildren.com, that’s what I’m going to cover. Plus I’m only one person, so I can’t cover ALL the games! So if you want to read about Modern Warfare 3 or Halo 4, you might want to go elsewhere. But click here if you want to know more about some of the family friendly titles shown you may have missed during the E3 frenzy. (of course, every now and then I might cover a T or M rated game) So here’s Day 1 of my E3 adventures!

Game Review: BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II (3DS, PSP)

Now you can enjoy Aksys Games’ flagship fighting game sequel on the go with BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II on PSP and 3DS (PSP version reviewed here). The title is a bit misleading as it’s not really a sequel to Continuum Shift on the big consoles. Instead, it’s the same game with a few new features, game modes, and characters only available as DLC in the console versions.
