Big news folks! I’ve got a new job! I’m making video games now! My boss is a big, fat, greedy man who has a zigzag moustache and his breath smells like garlic. And every time I ask when I’m getting paid, he always laughs like this: “WHA HA HA HA HAAAA!” Anyway, in this blog I thought I’d tell you about the people I work with at my new job, the history of the company, and a little bit about what I do there. (And for you more gullible types, yes this is just a very creative and silly blog about the newest game I’m really into right now: WarioWare D.I.Y. It’s a DS title that lets you create your own micro-games.).

The Bosses of Mega Man 10

As a huge classic Mega Man fan, I wanted to talk a bit about the newest game in the series: Mega Man 10. I know it’s been out for over a month on WiiWare, but I downloaded the Xbox 360 version later on because, well no particular reason except I have MM9 on 360 as well. So here’s a blog with a quick mini-review of MM10, a rundown on the bosses, stages, and weapons, and my favorite classic Mega Man games in general.

In the handheld wars, Nintendo has always reigned supreme. This has always made monkeys out of tech journalists and hardcore gamers – people who believe the Darwin like idea that tech wins over all else (a fallacy). I remember the original GameBoy and how the GameGear and then the Nomad and then one from Atari and one from… I don’t remember, Nokia had one at one point. But despite inferior technology – the GB had a black and white screen for god’s sake! – Nintendo has always come out on top based on the idea that people want games, and more games, and more games and that tech and price only appealed to a small subset of hardcore gamers. The Wii is no aberration, it was Nintendo returning to it’s smart ideas about roping in children, adults and old folks AND gamers all with one lasso.

Sakura Wars is a popular long-running strategy RPG series from Japan made by Sega. Now, thanks to NIS America, stateside players can finally enjoy this game on Wii and PS2 (Wii version reviewed here). Set in an alternate reality in 1920’s New York City, a Broadway musical troupe secretly defends the city from evil by piloting hulking robot battle mechs!

Game Review: Mimana Iyar Chronicle (PSP)

In Mimana Iyar Chronicle, an action-RPG for the PSP, play as Crais, a young guild knight. Crais is broke and down on his luck after gambling too much, and he’s a bit of a jerk, too. Luckily, a young girl soon hires Crais through the guild to be her bodyguard as they search the world for seven magical gems. In typical RPG fashion, they’ll meet up with other rag-tag adventurers and magicians who will join them as they end up saving the world in the process.
Portal

“This is a triumph!” I have a few holes in my game knowledge, but I did play Portal a bit when it came out – you know, right after my massive heart episode. Anyway, the game didn’t mix well with Vicodin, so I played long enough to get that GLaDOS was hilarious and insane and that the game itself was a work of genius. Oh, I also fell in love with “I’m Still Alive” in Rock Band. Well, Portal 2 is coming and I decided to finally finish the first one. Actually, I started it over and for two days I became obsessed.
New Club Nintendo Rewards Reviews!

Nintendo has an online program called Club Nintendo, where you can register your games and consoles and fill out surveys on what you purchased. It’s probably just a clever marketing ploy to get gamers to help Nintendo keep track of sales, feedback, and other numbers. But the good thing is that nearly everything you do there earns you coins. And you can spend those coins on rewards. Most of these rewards I don’t have any interest in. Mario stationery, game case holders, playing cards? Nah. But when it comes to exclusive games you can only get through Club Nintendo, then I’m totally interested! So here are two quick reviews on the newest Club Nintendo exclusive games: Game & Watch Collection 2 and Grill-Off With Ultra Hand.
