Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad - and I've been writing about videogames, movies, and children for over 15 years now. After working as a magazine journalist, I switched gears to write about how media violence affects children, educating parents about them, and working closely with magazines, newspapers, major retailers and even politicians. GamerDad is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Games, movies and media are fun, kids and families love them, they aren't going away. So join me in cutting through the hype and lets have a real conversation about the things that matter: Video Games, Violent Media, and their supposed effect on children and families.

Sonic Con 2010
This weekend I went to Sonic-Con. It was near where I live. Typical anime/video game convention stuff, but this one had more of a focus on Sonic the Hedgehog games and characters. It’s the first they’ve ever had, so was it a speedy success or a big blue bomb? Well, you’ll just have to read on to find out.
Game Review: Deer Drive (DS)
Can you tell “Wii” how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?
For more than 40 years, Sesame Street has delighted and taught children around the world. Heck, even I watched it as a kid back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Now your kids can have fun and learn with Big Bird and the gang with Cookie’s Counting Carnival and Elmo’s A to Zoo Adventure for Wii and DS (Wii versions reviewed here).
Game Review: Zhu Zhu Pets Featuring the Wild Bunch (Wii, DS)
Zhu Zhu Pets is a popular toy line of battery operated hamsters that roll, chatter, and scurry around little connected playsets. Recently they’ve expanded into other critters as well. Called the Wild Bunch, they include animals like a beaver, rabbit, skunk, and many more. Now your kids can go wild with two new Zhu Zhu Pets games featuring the Wild Bunch on Wii and DS.
Game Review: Kung Zhu (DS)
Zhu Zhu Pets is a popular toy line of little battery operated hamsters that roll, chatter, and scurry around little connected playsets. They’re generally marketed towards girls, so to get boys interested, they’ve now made Kung Zhu. It’s basically the same toy, except now the hamsters come in wild new colors like army green, have equipable armor, and the playsets are now ‘battle arenas.’ Now both boys and girls (who says girls don’t like to kick butt, too?) can enjoy their favorite hamster fighters with Kung Zhu for Nintendo DS.
Game Review: Pinball FX 2 (Xbox LIVE)
Game Review: Bit.Trip Fate (WiiWare)
There are quite a few of the Bit.Trip games on WiiWare now. They utilize retro styled graphics and sound along with retro themed gameplay for a challenging old school experience. Some of the games in the past have imitated Pong (Bit.Trip Beat) or a 2-D side-scrolling platformer (Bit.Trip Runner). The newest in the series, Bit.Trip Fate, plays like a horizontally scrolling 2-D shooter.
Game Review: Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light (DS)
Despite its conclusive-sounding name, Final Fantasy is one of the longest running role-playing game series. With more than 20 years under the belt, the Final Fantasy series has undergone a lot of changes. But what about those of us who miss the more ‘old-school’ FF titles? The 4 Heroes of Light for DS is supposed to fill that void.
Stand By!
Things break. For me, they tend to clump up and happen in dispiriting groups. This time it was a camera, an ipod and the big monitor I use for PC gaming. So of course a Gamerdad hiccup was to be expected. It’s all good now, thanks for putting up with it. Happy 12th Anniversary Gamermom and now back to cowboy zombies, already in progress.
Scared Silly: Cary’s Halloween Game Picks for 2010
Around this time of year, video game bloggers will often list their favorite scary games for Halloween. But for me, Halloween is more than just being scary. I’ve also viewed Halloween as more of a silly fun holiday. I mean, dressing up and going door to door to get candy is pretty silly (and fun) for kids if you think about it. So, for my little list of Halloween games, we won’t be looking at the scariest games to play. Instead, my list focuses on the fun aspects of Halloween: costumes, candy, and silly spooky fun!
