If you have a bunch of people over to play games during the holidays, but not enough controllers to play with everyone, then Jackbox has you covered! Their latest batch of party games is out, and all you need are cell phones or tablets to play them! Just connect to Jackbox.tv on any mobile device and enter in the room code and you’re in! It’s pretty simple and works well, and in some games, even people who don’t have cell phones can be part of the audience and participate, too. The Jackbox Party Pack 8 is available on most anything that can play games, but reviewed on PS4 here. Let’s take a quick look at the five games on this collection.
Kitaria Fables (Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, X/S, PC)

In a fantasy world full of talking dogs, cats, goats, bears, and others animals, trouble is brewing. An ancient calamity has returned, making monsters more aggressive and endangering the lives of the people. You play as a young cat imperial soldier, sent to a small town to help defend the village. There you’ll discover that to keep the calamity at bay, you must collect several relics from dungeon caves. And so your adventure begins! Kitaria Fables is a top down action adventure game, similar to titles like Zelda or more obscure ones like Brave Fencer Musashi. There’s a heavy emphasis on crafting materials and items, too, so you’ll do a lot of mining for ores and farming crops. So the game has a lot in common with titles like Rune Factory as well. It’s available on most current consoles and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.
Pretty Girls Panic! PLUS (PS4, PS5, Switch, PC)

Play a classic styled arcade game to reveal pictures of anime ladies in Pretty Gals Panic! PLUS. It’s very similar to Pretty Girls Panic, which I reviewed recently, but adds new graphics, characters, and gameplay mechanics. It’s available on PlayStation consoles, Switch, and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
KeyWe (Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, PC)

Jeff and Debra are two kiwi birds who have just applied for a post office job in a Podunk town in the middle of the Australian Outback. Unfortunately the mail room isn’t designed for two pint-sized kiwis, so they’ll really have to work together and use their beaks and butts to type out telegrams, mail letters, and sort inbound and outbound packages! KeyWe is a co-op action game available for most current consoles, but reviewed on Switch here.
Teacup (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)

Teacup is a frog who loves tea, but on the day before her big tea party, she runs out of ingredients! Oh no! Help her explore her town full of animals, talking with her friends and playing mini-games to gather everything she needs to have the best tea party ever. Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan (Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC)

In the Land of Imagination, the residents are about to celebrate a festival of colors. But when guest of honor Rainbow Billy launches the fireworks, they wake up a sleeping monochrome dragon under the sea! This angry Leviathan steals all the colors from the land, and now Billy must bring them all back and rescue his friends, and make more than 60 new ones, too! Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan is a turn-based RPG with elements of Paper Mario platforming thrown in. And the battles aren’t really battles at all. You must talk your way through each skirmish to make new friends out of your foes! The game is available on nearly all current game consoles and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.
Steel Assault (Switch, PC)

You are Taro Takahashi, a resistance soldier on a revenge mission against the dictator who lords over the ashes. Run, jump, climb, and smack enemies in this 16-bit arcade styled 2-D action platformer. Steel Assault is available on Switch and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.
Trios (Switch, PC)

Trios is a math puzzle game where you must solve equations to match the number in the background. In each stage are bubbles with numbers and equation signs in them (plus, minus, times, and divided by). You must tap two numbers and an equation sign to make a new number, and repeat the process until you get the desired outcome. It’s available on Switch and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.
Gynoug (PS4, Switch, Xbox One)

I’ve been reviewing a lot of Japan-only classic 16-bit shooters lately that have been re-released on newer consoles. But here’s one that was actually released in the US on the SEGA Genesis, under a new name. In Japan it was called Gynoug, but they changed it to Wings of Wor in the US. Despite how you may feel about the change, I can understand why they did that since ‘Gynoug” looks like the phonetical pronunciation of holding back a sneeze. Anyway, in this one you play as a winged warrior as you mow down enemies in 2-D side scrolling fashion. It’s available to download on most current consoles but reviewed on PS4 here.
Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy (Switch, PC)

Waifu? What’s that? Isn’t that what you hook your Internet up to? Nah, just joking, I know what that word means. It’s like a pretend girlfriend or something, I think. Anyway, fasten your seatbelts, folks, because I think this may be one of the weirdest (and most adult) 2-D shooters I’ve ever played. In a fantasy world, warrior and wizard ladies have put on cursed armor and now they need to get it off. So an old lady summons a spaceship from a shooter game and shrinks it down to shoot away the curses and remove the evil armor. Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy is available on Switch and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.
