There are many video game companies who have been around for a long time. One of those is Taito Corporation. Makers of familiar hits like Bubble Bobble, Elevator Action, and the ubiquitous Space Invaders. Many of their games have seen sequels and spinoffs, and there’s been a lot of Taito game updates this year alone. Some really good, and some really bad, we’ll look at a few of them in this blog.

Growing up in the 80’s I was like most other semi-nerdly teens. I was a sucker for arcade machines. One of the best deals of my middle school life was when the local arcade gave out tokens for grades on our report cards. (As a pretty smart little nerd, I was taking something like 10 classes and getting A’s in all of them – at 4 tokens for an A that’s a nice pile of change.) I came into a bit of “fun money” last spring, adding in my birthday presents I decided the time had come, I was going to build myself my very own arcade machine.

I’m lucky to be a stay-at-home dad. Sorry, another “Off Topic” post but I figure this audience will appreciate it. It’s a story about strawberries and five-year old greed.

Off topic: I’d like to congratulate George Takai and all of the California citizens taking advantage of this brief window of gay marriage acceptance in the Golden State. It’s old but it’s an amusing look back at an unforgettable event. So, in the interest of saving old content and celebrating our 5 year anniversary – here you go! The most ironic Father’s Day ever.

While Ubisoft didn’t provide it for me (hint hint) I got to do the write-up for My Weight Loss Coach for the DS. WhatTheyPlay doesn’t let me give a rating or talk quality but I can’t recommend this “game” enough if you’re the type who can be motivated by a game cartridge. (And I’ll cop to that. See, I never ever ever went jogging yet I’m doing it ALL THE TIME IN WII FIT?!?)

It took a commercial. I’ve had Boom Blox sitting here and I’ve heard the game is good but for some reason, other game have gotten in the way during GamerFamily playtime. Then a commercial came on and I saw my wife’s reaction and smiled, saying: “Uh, I’ve got that one you know. . .” In it went and up we came, here’s a full report.
