Retro: GamerDad Family #2

In honor of Father’s Day: The Day I became a Father.
What follows a dark and stormy night eight years ago?  Sunshine.

It was a dark and stormy night. Nine months had passed in a blur and yet, somehow, at the same time they crept by like a snail on Quaaludes. Impossibly fast – the baby can’t come now! And also . . . the longest nine months of my life. How was this possible? Do babies warp the space time continuum? more…

This week on Ask GamerDad we’ve got more questions on why one particular licensed game might not suck, about the elusive and some say mythological AO rating, and of course a question about Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.  Vice City?!?

Retro: GD Interviewed in the Dallas Morning News

gtasa11.jpgThe “Hot Coffee” and GTA: SA news story has bubbled and boiled over and finally, with some help from a newspaper reporter, GamerDad comments on it.
Heard about Hot Coffee? It’s a mod that allows people to “unlock” hidden content in their copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. That hidden content is . . . sex. The Dallas Morning News called me up for comment. Here’s the interview from 2005!

RPGWatch: The Whole Game in My Hand #9

Late in 2005 some friends at RPGDot came to me with the idea to do summary articles on the state on RPG gaming on the major handhelds.  The release of the DS and particularly the PSP had intrigued many RPG fans who were not interested in consoles (wait, that sounds like me!), and so I put together three articles – one for the GBA, one for the DS and the last one for the PSP.  The articles were very well received and when RPGWatch launched late in 2006, I was asked to update the state of handheld RPG’s once more.  That is how ‘The Whole Game in My Hand’ was born.

Greetings from Liberty City!

The City is Beautiful. Glad You’re Not Here.

Where’ve I been? Where do you think? Liberty City. Ah… Liberty City. It’s sort of an “adult” vacation spot. Not a place to bring the kids. In fact, this sprawling metropolis is bereft of children or teenagers. That’s a good thing. Because there are a thousand stories in the naked city and all of them are M-Mature. It’s time to come home and I hate to admit it. . . I’ll miss these mean streets. I’ll miss my terrifying breakneck speeding through the Booth tunnel. Buzzing the top of the Statue of Happiness with a stolen heli-tour copter. Cranking up Vladivostock radio, digging some Reggae, or tuning in to the incomparable Lazlo to help drown out the gunfire, screams, and constantly whining police sirens. more…

Retro: M-for Mature?

mmature.jpg In 2003 – that’s pre-GamerDad.com folks – I wrote this peice for publication at a website that sadly went out of business. The rights came back to me and I used it as part of the foundation at GamerDad. Shows you where my mind was at before all of this stuff began.
