Spring is almost here, and that means time to start soccer practice! So in honor of that, this week we’re going to look at a couple of unusual soccer-themed video games. First up is Super League Football Pinball for various Pinball FX2 and Zen Pinball formats (reviewed on 360 here). When you download Pinball FX 2 or Zen Pinball 2, you’re really downloading a free hub from which you can purchase and download various pinball tables separately. Super League Football is the newest table, and you can choose which team table you want and purchase the others later if you wish. I’m not familiar with European Football teams, so I can’t tell you much about them, but the tables are pretty much the same except each features that team’s colors and players. I went with the Zen Studios table since I had no affinity. Go team!

Competition to make smaller, faster, lower powered phones has resulted in cell phone chip manufacturers to the cutting edge of technology, now outpacing computer chip manufacturers in technical abilities. As cell phone capabilities grew, software initially designed for PCs was ported onto the new platform. However, cell phone technology has now come full circle and consumers can now purchase game consoles and even personal computers powered by the same chips found on popular cutting edge cell phones. Most of these new “boxes” run on some form of the common Android operating system initially found on phones but is now being used in a wide ranging number of ways. One of the newest entries to the field of Android powered hardware is the MiiPC box. The MiiPC claims to bring web-based desktop applications (cloud-based computing), media center capabilities, and serve as a gaming console all for under $100. To top things off, it also has a flexible and robust set of parental controls to make it family friendly.

Now you can go on a dot-munching, ghost chasing tour with Pac-Man Museum, featuring ten of Pac-Man’s most famous arcade and console outings. Go from the game that started it all in the original Pac-Man, released in 1980, all the way up to Pac-Man Battle Royale, which was just released in arcades a few years ago! Pac-Man Museum is available for download on 360, PS3, and PC, but reviewed on 360 here.
Wolf Fang (PS3)

In the first part of this year, MonkeyPaw Games has been releasing a handful of import PSOne titles to download on PS3. Wolf Fang is one of those games, and it’s a classic arcade shooter from the now defunct Data East. Pilot your mech and shoot anything that moves in this 2-D action game for one or two players.
Gabrielle’s Sweet Defense (iPad)

One day, Gabrielle accidentally sneezed her soul out of her body, and she was able to temporarily visit the monster world and make friends with a lot of silly spooky characters. Gabrielle and her paranormal pals have starred in lots of video games from Natsume, including a music dance game on the 3DS, and a few iOS titles as well. In her newest game: Gabrielle’s Sweet Defense, Gabrielle has returned to the monster world, and to celebrate, her friends are making a bunch of yummy desserts. But the smell of these sweet treats have attracted some unwanted visitors: Humans! Help defend the desserts in this free-to-play iOS game that’s like a reverse Plants vs. Zombies game (iPad version reviewed here).

Yep, once again it is Dr. Seuss’ birthday! If your kids are anything like mine, they’ve been celebrating his birthday all week long. March 2nd is officially his birthday, and so the folks who create all Seuss iOS books are putting them all on sale from now until March 6th! While they are all at least a buck less, a few are on extra discount.
