Fury Fight: Gangster of City (Switch)

Fury Fight is a minimalist side scrolling beat ‘em up for Nintendo Switch.  Choose between four characters and tackle dozens of short stages beating up thugs on city streets.

You can jump, block, kick, and punch.  It makes me wonder if this was a cell phone game at one point because the button commands are overlayed on the screen like you could tap them. But you can’t do that even in the Switch’s handheld mode, nor can you remove them.  The short stages are also laid out how most cell phone games are.  I found it easier just to spam the kick button since punches have such short range that the baddies can usually get a hit or two in before you.  If you lose all your energy, you have to start the stage over.

While I love the ‘so bad it’s good’ wire frame characters and garish colors, that’s about it.  Gameplay is not fun and it gets way too hard around stage 4.  A lot of the brawlers don’t even look like they belong in the game, as you beat up what looks like hippies and office ladies.  With other beat ‘em ups like Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge out now, there’s just so many better choices out there than this.

Kid Factor:

Fury Fight: Gangster of City is rated E-10 with an ESRB descriptor of Mild Violence.  You can punch and kick baddies that disappear with a groan when defeated.  Reading skill isn’t needed to play, but younger gamers may find it too difficult and/or boring anyway.
