GluMe (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)

I don’t know if “GluMe” is pronounced “Gloom” or “Glue Me (Gloomy)” but either way it’s a clever title.  Anyway, this is a block pushing puzzle game but also is like a cross between these “Sokoban” style games and Puyo Puyo, the puzzle game where blobs stick to each other.  In the game you play as a blob, and your job is to collect all the jewels in each stage.  If you pass by another sleeping blob, it’ll stick to you either vertically or horizontally, depending on how you passed it.  Then you’ll control two of them together, and so on.  This can be handy, as you can then push two blocks at once or pass over pits you’d normally fall into.  But it also restricts your movement and you can’t fit into narrow passages.  So you must think about that as you play.  Anyway, the game is available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

Controls are easy to learn as you can only move up, down, left, and right.  When you are against certain blocks, you can push them, too.  And that’s pretty much it.  Again, you must watch out for other blobs that can stick to you that can hinder your progress, and also watch out for enemies like other blobs that can eat one of yours!  You can try to get a “Perfect” score on each level where you use a minimum number of moves, and there are also hidden secret bonus stages, too.  My only big problem with this game is that it’s REALLY HARD!  But I do like the unique take on the Sokoban style of gameplay, and it looks like a game I would’ve rented back in the NES days.

Kid Factor:

GluMe is rated E for Everyone with an ESRB descriptor of Mild Fantasy Violence.  Your blobs can get eaten by enemies and fall into pits, but that’s about it.  Reading skill isn’t needed, but younger gamers may need help with the tougher puzzles.
