Bee Movie Bias?
I love Jerry Seinfeld. In fact, I’ve been re-watching Seinfeld in syndication lately and enjoying it all the more after watching “Curb Your Enthusiasm” over the past few years. It’s so easy to mentally replace George with Larry David. I understand that it’s a big deal that Jerry is back with this animated “Bee Movie,” and I love children’s animation, but the ad blitz has me wanting to jam my fingers in my ears and scream “Serenity Now!” Is this unprecedented advertising overkill of what looks like – judging from previews – a pretty mediocre retread of “Antz” going to make it impossible for me to review the game without bias?
What were they thinking throwing Seinfeld out there for the better part of a year to advertise this movie? I just caught the new HP commercial, then there’s those somewhat funny shorts on NBC, commercials everywhere, and now even the Nasonex Bee even has me thinking about this film. Will I see it? Yeah, I will. Either for work at DisneyFamily.com or just because I love taking my kids to the movies and at their age, pickings are slim, but I’m having a very hard time getting up the energy to pop the game into the deck.
What do you think? Is this how they’re going to advertise movies now? By hitting us over the head with advertising? Do they think the end result will be people buzzing to the multiplex like workers or drones? Is it just me or after waiting nine years for something new from Jerry Seinfeld, do you wish he’d go back into retirement? Wouldn’t it be funny if we could arrange an opening weekend boycott of the movie? Just to drive home a point?
I hate to say it but I fear that the movie will be a success and justify the overkill. See? Now, because of the ad campaign, I want the movie to fail. Maybe I should send the game to one of my freelancers. Me? I’m just too tired of the never-ending, droning, buzz.

My general rule is that any movie that gets that treatment will be mediocre at best. I was surprised to see the new Steve Carrell movie getting decent (not great) reviews – I assumed that since they were trumpeting it as ‘bestest EVAR’ for a couple months before that it wouldbe crap.
By I share your lack of enthusiasm … and my kids are a bit older and not pushing us to go see that. Golden Compass and Spiderwick Chronicles, on the other hand …

Did you not see what the Halo ad blitz helped do?
