Maiden Cops (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)

In Maiden City, the police force and most of the population are made up of ladies who are half human, half animal.  OK, a little weird, but at least it’s a bit more imaginative.  Anyway, play as one of three ladies in the Maiden Cops police force as you take down a gang of liberators who are trying to take over the city in this beat ‘em up that’s clearly inspired by classics such as Final Fight and Streets of Rage.  Maiden Cops is available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

In the game, you can play as a half woman, half cow (slow but strong), a bunny lady (fast but weaker), and a salamander gal (all around).  Two can play at the same time, too.  Punch and kick baddies who are also woman animal hybrids in seven stages.  You can pick up weapons to swing around or throw, and gather healing food and bonus point goodies, too.  You can pick from several difficulty selections and continue as many times as you like.  Anyone who’s played a beat ‘em up before will feel at home here.  At the end of each stage your score is tallied, and then turned into money that you can use in a shop to buy new outfits for your characters, music, art, cheats, and more.

The theme is a little odd, but I do like the retro styled graphics and gameplay.  It’s not near as good as other beat ‘em ups like Final Fight, River City Girls, Streets of Rage 4, or TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge.  But it’s still a fairly decent and serviceable beat ‘em up.

Kid Factor:

Maiden Cops is rated T for Teen with ESRB descriptors of Fantasy Violence and Sexual Themes.  You do clobber all sorts of scantily clad anime animal ladies and there’s some saucy stuff in the text, too.  Because it’s a bit spicy, this one is best for older gamers.
