Alien Breakout (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)
Help a little green alien escape from a secret laboratory in Alien Breakout. It’s a 2-D precision platformer with some run and gun elements, and it’s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
Your little alien can run and jump, and leap from sticky surfaces like a wall jump. Soon after you start, you’ll get a gun to shoot at enemy soldiers and aliens. You can also use the gun to solve puzzles like flipping switches, breaking blocks, and more. Each level is about one or two screens long, and luckily many of them have checkpoints. You must make it to the exit to pass a level, all the while avoiding obstacles along the way. The first 50 stages are in a laboratory, and the last 50 are on a UFO, for 100 levels in all. The game is challenging, but still somewhat doable, and makes for a decent and serviceable simple little 2-D platformer.
Kid Factor:
Alien Breakout is rated E-10 with an ESRB descriptor of Fantasy Violence. You can shoot at enemy soldiers and aliens and even innocent lab workers, but defeated characters just disappear in a puff of smoke. Reading skill isn’t needed, but younger gamers may need help with some of the tougher challenges.
