Running Fable: Petite Party (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)

The original Running Fable was a game that came out a few years ago.  You would pick either a rabbit or a turtle (like the fable) and place traps along race tracks as you ran for the goal.  It looked a little bit like a mix of Fall Guys and Mario Kart.  I had never heard of it, but apparently now there is a second game in the series with Petite Party.  Play as the characters from the first excursion as you race along a board game while playing mini-games just like Mario Party.  It’s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

There are two modes of play, and four local players can go at the same time.  The first mode is the board game mode.  You choose one of three boards and take turns rolling the dice.  After everyone has moved, you’ll play a mini-game.  I think whoever wins the mini-game gets to set a trap, but it really wasn’t clear while playing.  Then whoever makes it to the end of the board first, wins.  The other mode lets you play each of the mini-games separately.

There really isn’t anything wrong with this game.  It’s totally unoriginal and probably could’ve used more mini-games (only 16), but it at least sets out to do what it says and there’s not really any bad mini-games or anything.  If you can’t get enough Mario Party style games, you’ll want to check out this one.

Kid Factor:

Nothing really violent or objectionable here.  You can dash into other players in some of the games, and they just spin around when hit.  Everyone just looks like stuffed animals anyway.  Reading skill is helpful for the text, but not necessary just to play as long as the younger ones have a little help.  Running Fable: Petite Party is rated E for Everyone.
