Tomba Special Edition (Switch)
The two Tomba games are some of my favorites on the PSOne. They’re 2.5D platformers that are kind of like a cross between Klonoa and the Wonder Boy games. You play as a caveboy wild kid with pink hair named Tomba, and you fight these evil pig guys. I remember when I first saw this game at the very first E3 I ever went to and someone dressed as Tomba gave me a demo disc. I got to review both games in the series when I worked at The Dallas Morning News, too! Did you know that one of the guys who helped make the Tomba games also used to work for Capcom and helped make some of the early Ghosts N Goblins and Mega Man games there? A year or so ago they re-released this game on Switch and even made a special edition of it. I normally don’t spend that kind of money on these things, but sometimes I splurge and I got it. I’ve had it for a while and decided I would show it off when I didn’t have many games to review. Well we’ve gotten to that point so here it is!
Here is a bigger picture of the big box everything comes in.
And here’s the back of that big box.
I think my favorite thing in the box are these Tomba and Pig action figures!
There’s also these little postcards with artwork on them.
There’s also a little hardcover book that doubles as a strategy guide and artbook.
Here’s a page from the inside strategy guide. I only wish the book were a bit bigger.
Inside the big box is a smaller box with the game and other goodies. I like how they recreated the original cover art from the PlayStation.
And here’s the back of that box.
Inside you get a CD soundtrack. You don’t see CDs much anymore.
And here’s the game of course.
You also get a steel box you can put the game in if you like. Here’s the front of that.
And the inside.
Last is a poster. One side has some Japanese artwork. I’m not sure which way is up!
The other side has a map. Since this is a 2.5D platformer, that map isn’t very useful.
And that’s all for now! Let me know what you think in the comments section. Did you ever play the Tomba games? Later! –Cary
