Pictonico (Mobile)
The weirdest thing about this game is not that it’s a WarioWare styled title where they take your photos and make mini-games out of them. No the weird thing is that this is a new mobile game developed and published by Nintendo! I thought they were done with mobile, but I guess not! Anyway, Pictonico is available on mobile devices, but reviewed on iPad here.
You can download a demo for free, which lets you try three games. You can purchase volumes for 8 bucks and 6 bucks each, and they contain 50 to 80 games. I’m only reviewing the demo here. But yeah this game is just like WarioWare. They’ll take pictures from your photo album and make games out of them. You’ll be given a prompt and must figure out and do what it says in a few seconds. And the games are pretty weird and silly. One has you moving your jaw with the touch screen to eat food. Another has you lather shampoo into hair. And the last one in the demo has you moving a lollipop around so your face can lick it.
You know what’s funny is that had this game had the WarioWare branding and characters, I probably would’ve bought the volumes. I know that’s shallow, but at least I admit it. But as it stands, I don’t really want to support that kind of nickel and diming in gaming so I’m not going past the demo unless I get REALLY bored. Also I think this game would’ve fared better had it been released five or more years ago. But if you like WarioWare styled games, you might want to try this one out. At least it’s not TOO expensive.
Kid Factor:
Nothing too violent or objectionable here, at least from what I can tell. If you’re ok with your kids playing WarioWare, they’ll be fine here. The game says that photos won’t be shared online, but parental supervision is still recommended for the in-game purchases.
