Super Woden Rally Edge (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)
Somebody out there must like these Super Woden racing games, as this is the third one I’ve reviewed. This top down racer is more of a rally race, meaning that instead of laps, you go from point A to point B on a track just once. Super Woden Rally Edge is available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
Since you’re not going around laps on a single track in this one, they’ve changed how this game is played a bit. Instead of viewing the action in a top down view where you control the cars more akin to Sprint or Micro Machines, here the camera is always behind your racer in top down fashion, so the controls are more traditional racing fare.
When you first start you have just enough money to buy a car. After that you can choose Championship Mode where you earn money by placing high in a series of races. Or you can do Arcade Mode where you pick from a selection of cars and jump right into the action. With the money you earn from winning, you can buy new and better cars, or tune up and upgrade the old ones. You can even give them a wash and oil change, which should make them perform better. But honestly I didn’t notice any difference when you did that and the game is so hard to win that I don’t see how you can earn money. Because of that I lost interest in this one pretty quickly.
Kid Factor:
Nothing violent or objectionable here. You can bump your car on the sides of roads and such, but that’s about it. Reading skill is needed for the text and younger gamers may find it too difficult. Super Woden Rally Edge is rated E for Everyone.
