Woodo (Switch 1 & 2, PS5, Xbox X/S, PC)

Piece together wooden dioramas to tell a story in Woodo.  Foxy is a city fox who just graduated elementary school and is spending the summer in the country.  But she’s not happy about it.  No friends, nothing to do, and worst of all, no WiFi for her cell phone!  But her outlook changes when she meets Ben the frog.  Woodo is a cozy puzzle game available on most current consoles and PC, but reviewed on Switch 2 here.

You’ll play the game by moving around a cursor.  On the right side of the screen are the pieces for you to place on the wooden diorama.  You can tell where things need to go because they will be colorless on the diorama until you place the right piece.  Simply hold down the A button over a piece and move it around and release it when you want to drop it.  If the piece goes in the right spot, it’ll lock in place.  Use the right control stick and other buttons to zoom and pan the view around to see the diorama at different angles so you can see how the pieces fit.  Sometimes you might have to zoom in close to do a separate part of the diorama, or find hidden objects to unlock new pieces.  As you play, a voiceover will tell Foxy’s story.

Everything has a nice wooden texture to it and the power of the Switch 2 really makes the graphics pop.  My only problem with this game is the camera controls are a bit confusing and cumbersome. It’s also really hard to find where the small pieces go, but luckily there is a hint option.  And because the game is slightly repetitive and slow, I did lose interest after a while.  But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad game.  If you just want a relaxing game to chill out with, Woodo would be a perfect fit.

Kid Factor:

Nothing violent or objectionable here.  Reading skill is helpful for the text, but not necessary just to play.  Parental supervision is recommended for in-game DLC purchases, though.  Woodo is rated E for Everyone.
