2nd Opinion: Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake (iPad)

BIRTHDAY_BOXAbout a month or two ago, my good friend Leroy reviewed Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake for PC, and it looked like a game that was right up my alley.  So Cartoon Network Games was gracious enough to give me a review code for the iPad version.  So in honor of MY real birthday, which is today, September 15, here is my own take on this cute little puzzle game.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (3DS)

TMNT_BOXThe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have delighted kids since, well, when I was a kid!  I was a little too old to get into them back then, but boy I sure did love the original arcade game!  Now the four heroes are just as popular as ever, with a computer animated series on Nickelodeon and a new summer movie.  Fans can relive the action of the recent film with a game based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, exclusively on Nintendo 3DS.

Panda Pandamonium (iPad)

PANDA_BOXTwo adorable little pandas need your help!  They’re trapped between stacks of tiles, and need you to clear them away!  Panda Pandamonium is best described as a fast-action arcade Mah-Jongg style game, and it’s available to download on iOS devices (reviewed on iPad here).

The Brave Furries (iPad)

BRAVE_BOXA tribe of little furballs lives happily in the forest, when all of a sudden an evil wizard kidnaps their princess!  Now the little furries must enter the wizard’s stronghold and save the day in The Brave Furries, a downloadable puzzle game for iOS devices and Google Play (reviewed on iPad here).  I’m not sure how making colored fuzzballs hop into similar colored glowing spheres arranged in a spider web grid will save a princess, but oh well.  This puzzler is like a modern take on those ‘jump-a-peg’ games, you know, like the ones you can play at Cracker Barrel while you wait for your food.

PAX Prime 2014: Day 1: Seattle Warriors

SMASHThe Penny Arcade Expo, or PAX for short, is one of the largest public video game conventions in the US.  They have one in Boston, a newly announced PAX South in San Antonio in January (which I will be going to as well), but the big main one was just in Seattle over this past Labor Day weekend.  I just got back from that one, so for the rest of this week, we’ll take a look at what I did and games I played at this year’s PAX Prime!  Let’s get started!

Mastering Minecraft (Book)

MINECRAFT_BOXMinecraft is one of the biggest gaming phenomena in recent history, with versions of it on the PC, consoles, and tablets.  It’s spawned countless products like T-shirts, toys, and keychains, and I think it was even featured on an episode of South Park (I wouldn’t know, I don’t like that show).  ALL my brothers have been into Minecraft at some point, and with its free-roaming nature and retro graphics, it looks appealing even to me!  Only reason why I don’t play it is because I’m afraid I’d get sucked into it too much.  But if you’re looking to get into Minecraft, BradyGames has a book that can help you get started.  Let’s take a look inside.
