Thanks to Wii Sports being a pack-in game with every initial Wii, sports games became very popular on the console and showed us new ways to play our favorite athletic events with motion controls. There were many Wii Sports imitators: some good, some bad. A couple of years later, Nintendo repeated the same success with Wii Fit, so fitness games became all the rage, too. Again, some were good, some not as much. So in this part of my blog series, we’re going to take a look at the best sports and fitness games on the Wii!

One of the things that got me excited for the Wii initially was the fact that you could download and play classic games from other consoles on it. When I was at E3 in 2006, I was just as excited to play Bonk’s Adventure on the Wii just as much as Wii Tennis! With the Wii Virtual Console, you can play games from consoles like the NES, SNES, N64, Commodore 64, Sega Master System, Genesis, Neo-Geo, even TG-16! And due to the popularity of original Xbox LIVE and PSN games, later on the Wii let you download original games as well with their WiiWare service. So in this part of my blog series, we’ll look at some of my favorite Virtual Console and WiiWare games.

One of my favorite video game genres are collections of old arcade games or other retro compilations. So I decided to make a whole blog about my preferred ones for the Wii in Part 2 of my blog series on my favorite Wii games. I know these kinds of games don’t use the Wii’s motion control strengths, and some of these can be found on other consoles as well. But I enjoyed them most on the Wii so they go here anyway.

With the release of Kirby’s Dream Collection out of the way, I feel that I’ve probably played the last great Wii game. Oh sure, they’ll be a few good stragglers here and there, like Epic Mickey 2, but I’ll probably end up playing that one on the 360 or PS3. So when a new console comes out (like the Wii U), and I know that there aren’t any more significant releases on the old console (like the Wii), I like to make a blog featuring and honoring all my favorite games on the previous console. There were so many fun games on the Wii, though, that I decided to make this blog a multipart feature consisting of several short blogs, one every couple of days or so.

Today, September 15, is my birthday, so during work on Friday, a co-worker brought in a birthday cake she made. Since it is video game related, I thought I’d share with you all some pictures of it. It’s a pretty neat cake!
Cary’s Favorite Transformers

At the end of last month, I reviewed Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. I really enjoyed the game because it was more like the original toy line and cartoon that I remember back in the 80’s, not the recent Michael Bay movies. Aside from the cool special effects, I never really did like the Michael Bay Transformers movies. Anytime the robots were not fighting it was really awful, especially anything having to do with the human characters. But I never complained too much because this WAS a movie based on an old toy line and 30 minute commercial disguised as a cartoon. You can’t expect too much out of that. But because of the new game, I’ve been on a bit of a Transformers kick lately, so I thought that in this blog, I’d list my top five favorite Autobots and top five favorite Decepticons.

Power Packed PAX: Day 1

The Penny Arcade Expo, or PAX for short, is a massive gaming convention started by the same folks who do the successful Penny Arcade web comic and Child’s Play charities. PAX is nearly as big as the E3 trade show, but PAX is open to the public, and features electronic video games as well as PC and tabletop games for people to try out, play, and compete. I had the opportunity to visit the original PAX in Seattle again this past weekend, so hang on for the first of a three part article series about my experiences at PAX 2012!
