Pixar makes literature, Hayao Miyazaki makes art, Dreamworks makes fluffy gagfests. Monsters vs. Aliens (which I saw in 2D because my theater listing lied to me) is that third thing. And I don’t just mean it was made by Dreamworks. But that’s all right. Fluffy gagfest is probably best when your title gives away so much of the plot.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) first contacted me about a year into my doing GamerDad. The interview went well, but there was obvious doubt and hostility from the other end and the piece they ran emphasized the “being careful” part of my argument but used “games can’t be good for you”, which isn’t my philosophy. Last September a nice journalist from BBC Radio contacted me about doing a pro-gaming/pro-family thing. And that we’d get to be on the Radio in Britain! more…

Videogames Preparing Children for Apocalypse?

I’m slow to find things on the Internet so this just crossed my radar screen. Bless The Onion, they’re really on to something here. I also believe that the younger generation is probably the most prepared for an alien or zombie invasion as any generation in history. So long as there’s a reset button. Or in other words: “Playing video games, all day, alone and friendless is simply the best way that we have to prepare our children for a life of solitude in a barren wasteland…” Watch the video.

Riddle me This, GamerDad is a new idea. It’s a way for me to answer the questions that aren’t right for WhatTheyPlay’s Ask GamerDad. So, fire away, tell me what you think. Poor Liam

I don’t know much about Natasha Richardson – I didn’t know who her husband was – but I remember mainly from the cover of “The Handmaid’s Tale” (a movie I’ll have to see now). She had 18-year old me smitten. Unfortunately, Ms. Richardson wasn’t wearing a helmet when she crashed while hurtling down a mountain at high speed. Sadly she has died. But the one thing I can’t get out of my mind (because I’m a fan) is the sorrow of Liam Neeson. We’ve seen him experience profound grief in countless films. This is one role where he needs no audience.
Give Blood says the Resident of Evil Creek

It’s Friday the 13th and Resident Evil V comes out today. So this seems fitting! Remember when some cranky old judge – ruling against video games – referred to one of the most famous video games as “The Resident of Evil Creek.” Ha ha! So lame! Wait, oh yeah, it happend like 9 years ago. Nevermind. This is news from Capcom about a Blood Drive (something I can’t do anymore, sadly). Here it comes…
