SHREK_BOXNow your little directors can make their own movies with some help from their DreamWorks Shrek pals in Toontastic Jr.: Shrek for iOS devices (iPad version reviewed here). Star Wars Pinball (360)

STAR_BOXA long, long time ago in arcades (sometimes no so) far, far away, there was pinball. Now the Force (of gravity) can be with you as you train to be a Jedi (pinball) master with Star Wars Pinball from Zen Studios. Star Wars Pinball is available on a variety of platforms; you can download it from the App Store and Google Play, or for Pinball FX2 on Xbox LIVE or Zen Pinball 2 on PSN (Xbox 360 version reviewed here). Cary’s Favorite Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli Films

PANDANi no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is an upcoming PS3 RPG title. The main draw of Ni no Kuni is that the characters and story were designed by Studio Ghibli, a very influential and prolific animation studio in Japan that has made many memorable films. I’m pretty selective about my anime and only like a few series, such as Astro Boy, original Dragon Ball, and not much else. But I do love the movies that Studio Ghibli puts out, so in honor of the release of Ni no Kuni, here are my favorites of theirs. Actually it’ll be a list of pretty much all their movies, since I like most of them for some reason or another anyway.

ICE: Merry Madagascar

ICE2Every year at Christmastime, the Gaylord Texan Hotel in Grapevine has an ice sculpture exhibit. I went to it two years ago when it was about the A Charlie Brown Christmas TV classic special. Last year it was about Shrek, and since I’m not a big fan of Shrek, I skipped out on that one (plus tickets are kind of expensive). But this year, the exhibit was Merry Madagascar, based on the Christmas special featuring characters from the Madagascar movies. Since I like the penguins from Madagascar, I decided to go see it this year. So here are some fun pictures from the trip!

Wreck-It Ralph (3DS, Wii)

Based on the recently released hit Disney computer animated movie, Wreck-It Ralph on Wii and 3DS takes place after the events of the film (3DS version reviewed here). So you’ll want to see the movie before playing this game if you don’t want things spoiled for you. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, so it’s worth seeing. Anyway, in the game, Ralph finds a lone Cy-Bug egg in the Sugar Rush game world while cheering on Vanellope in the Daily Roster Race. The Cy-Bug hatches and multiplies and swarms into three of the game worlds. Now it’s up to Wreck-It Ralph and Fix-It Felix Jr. to team up and stop those bugs once and for all!

Summer Movies, Assemble!

Well, the last few weeks of summer are winding down, so I thought now would be a good time to take a look at all the summer movies I watched and give my brief impressions on them. Even though I saw a lot of movies, keep in mind that I went to the first early bird showing of each one over a weekend, so I really didn’t pay that much for tickets. I paid even less since I don’t go see movies in 3-D because I’ve been blind in my left eye since birth and can’t see the 3-D effects anyway. And I guess I should do one of those ‘spoiler warning’ things. I’m going to try and NOT spoil too much of these movies for you, but just in case something slips out, you’ve been forewarned. OK with all that out of the way, let’s get started!
