GamerDad and family Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad - and I've been writing about videogames, movies, and children for over 15 years now. After working as a magazine journalist, I switched gears to write about how media violence affects children, educating parents about them, and working closely with magazines, newspapers, major retailers and even politicians. GamerDad is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Games, movies and media are fun, kids and families love them, they aren't going away. So join me in cutting through the hype and lets have a real conversation about the things that matter: Video Games, Violent Media, and their supposed effect on children and families.

Cave Story 3D (3DS)

The history of Cave Story is just as interesting as the game itself. It started off as a one-man indie project you could download on the PC a few years back. It looked like something you could have played on the NES. 8-bit graphics and sound, and simple yet compelling and challenging gameplay reminiscent of titles like Metroid and Mega Man. And the game was pretty darn fun, too. Later, the game was so well recognized and received that you could download it on some consoles like the Wii and DS. And now you can enjoy Cave Story in a new way on the 3DS.

Game Review: Moshi Monsters: Moshling Zoo (DS)

Moshi Monsters is a super popular Web site for kids that lets them take care of their own monsters. I’ve seen tons of commercials and toys for them anyway. Looks kind of like this generation’s version of Neopets. One of the things you can do on the site is have pets for your monsters called Moshlings. Now you can take care of these little guys on the DS with Moshi Monsters: Moshling Zoo.

Game Review: Fate/EXTRA (PSP)

Fate/EXTRA is an RPG based on a popular anime series. Play as a high school student who notices that something is not quite right about the world. You’ll soon discover that reality is fabricated and the virtual world is used as a training ground for a great war. The story is a bit more interesting than that, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.
