Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad - and I've been writing about videogames, movies, and children for over 15 years now. After working as a magazine journalist, I switched gears to write about how media violence affects children, educating parents about them, and working closely with magazines, newspapers, major retailers and even politicians. GamerDad is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Games, movies and media are fun, kids and families love them, they aren't going away. So join me in cutting through the hype and lets have a real conversation about the things that matter: Video Games, Violent Media, and their supposed effect on children and families.

Call of Doritos
This blog is all that and a bag of chips! Well, actually it’s about a bag of chips. I found out that Doritos made some special Call of Duty snack bags, so I had to take a picture of it to show you all. This will probably be all I talk about regarding Call of Duty, too. Click here to see the chips.

Game Review: BurgerTime World Tour (Xbox LIVE Arcade)
Back in the early 80’s, I was extremely big into Pac-Man (still am, really). But there were a few arcade classics that could lure my quarters away from the Pac temporarily. BurgerTime was one of those games. Now a new generation can enjoy making giant sized burgers with BurgerTime World Tour on Xbox LIVE.
Game Review: Nikoli’s Pencil Puzzle (3DS)
2nd Opinion – Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure
Following on the footsteps of Cary’s excellent Skylander post, I thought I’d throw in my $0.02 of what I (and my pre-K sons) thought of the game as well as some more details on how the collectible figurines work within the game. Do you need to collect all 30-odd characters? No, but gamers who want to fully explore every nook and cranny of each level will want access to at least one character of each of the 8 elemental types. Cary summed up the game nicely by comparing it to a kid-friendly version of Gauntlet. While the game doesn’t have a lot of depth, the combination of colorful figures, gadgetry, and level design results in a very fun game for kids (or gaming with kids) that may be of interest to hard core gamers.

Recently I got Otomedius Excellent, a 2-D shooter for the Xbox 360. It’s essentially a Gradius game with anime girl characters in it. The game comes in a Collector’s Edition, so here’s everyone’s favorite sock puppet puppy: Boxer the Unboxer, to ‘unbox’ and show everything you get in this special edition game!
Game Review: Dora and Kai-Lan’s Pet Shelter (DS)
Nick Jr. starlets Dora and Kai-Lan are taking care of lost pets and finding them good homes at their Pet Shelter. Kai-Lan’s grandfather and Dora’s cousin Diego the animal rescuer are here to lend a hand, too. Now your child can help them all care for puppies, kittens, bunnies, and birds in Dora and Kai-Lan’s Pet Shelter for Nintendo DS.
