Wall*E
Only Pixar could render a shattered post-apocalyptic New York – with cubes of compacted garbage rivaling the height of the Chrysler Building – beautiful. Wall*E actually exceeds high expectations, it rivals the companies best, it pushes the envelope on CGI animation and cinematic storytelling. It’s an instant masterpeice from a company known for making what amounts to cinematic literature.
This Week in Games: Nov. 30 – Dec. 6
The new releases are definitely starting to wind down for the holiday’s – aside from a load of DS shovelware most platforms are pretty thin on new games. The biggest release this week comes from the multiplatform release of Prince of Persia. Their is also a multiplatform release of Tales of Despereaux in anticipation of the big holiday movie release. Other than that it is mostly minor releases and leftivers fromprevious weeks. It is interesting that the PSP again has no releases, and last week’s Mytran Wars has yet to appear at retail, making it 3 of 4 weeks with no new games. Check out the rest of the list! more…

txa1265 Interviewed on Goozcast #19
I have been known to trumpet the game trading site Goozex as a wonderful way to save money and get some value for games that have been kicking around in your closet for years. GamerDad has supported them from the very start, and they in turn have returned the favor. About a year and a half ago they started producing a podcast called the ‘Goozcast’. I was originally supposed to be featured on Goozcast #1, but things and life happen, so it never happened … until now. We talk about PC gaming, gaming as a parent with kids, great games for gifts, and a whole bunch more. Check out the Goozcast Page for numerous ways to listen to Goozcast #19, including iTunes.
Thanksgiving 08, My Week in Games
Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday and I’m not sure why. It doesn’t come from my childhood, I mean then Christmas was pretty hard to beat. I think it probably comes from the time I shared a Thanksgiving with about 25 weirdos at a pot luck in the Haight back in College and from my kids. Now it’s deepened in meaning because of the Heart Attack. I love my family and my life, Happy Thanksgiving to my volunteers and readers. Ok, now lets talk about some games.
Madagascar
Madagascar proves a few theories that have been rattling around in my head. One is that Lemurs secretly like to Rave, and the other is that Dreamworks Pictures makes pretty CGI animated features that are like cotton candy. They melt in your mouth in a sweet and sticky way, but when compared to rival Pixar, they’re ultimately soulless and leave little after-taste. Or maybe a better way of thinking of it is: Dreamworks likes jokes. Pixar likes stories with jokes in them.
Game Review: Metal Slug 7 (DS)
When it comes to 2-D side scrolling action shooters, the Metal Slug series from SNK usually comes to mind first (or at least second or third). These arcade games have been munching quarters for more than ten years, but now you can save your laundry money and get the newest in the series: Metal Slug 7 on the Nintendo DS instead.
The MLA ’08 Librarian Convention
Last week Thursday (11/20) I took my speech down to Mississippi to talk to the grassroots. I’ve spoken at PAX, I’ve been on the radio and TV, I’ve been published anywhere, but I think I did the most GOOD last Thursday than in the 5.5 years of GamerDad previous. Think about it. I preached the good word about videogames, gave the best advice I have, and inspired over 400 librarians from tiny libraries across Mississippi to open their minds to electronic gaming. These librarians will convince parents, who will spread it to teachers, and so on, and so on, and so on. Thank you MLA, I had a wonderful time and your enthusiasm is infectious. Also, don’t challenge a librarian to Wii bowling lightly… they might surprise you. READ MORE…
