The Little Acre (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

LITTLE_BOXThe Little Acre is a point and click adventure with hand-drawn graphics, so it kind of has a Willy Beamish feel to it.  You play as father Aiden and daughter Lilly, who live on a small farm with Aiden’s dad.  His dad is an inventor and has made a portal to another dimension.  One day, he goes missing and Aiden searches for him and discovers the portal machine.  When Lilly wakes up and finds her dad missing, too, she goes after them as well.  It’s up to you to help reunite them and bring them back home.  It’s available to download on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

Cary’s Best Games of 2016 Awards Show!

TERRA_BOXIt’s that time of year again!  It’s the Cary’s Best Games of 2016 Awards Show blog!  Keep in mind that no outside opinions went into the making of this list.  It’s just my own picks.  And if a game is missing from my list, it either didn’t appeal to me as much, or I just simply haven’t played it yet.  Can’t play all the games out there, you know!  Plus I do apologize if this list leans toward the Nintendo side.  I don’t have an Xbox One, and I just got a PS4 at the end of November, so you’ll just have to deal with it.

Feist (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

FEIST_BOXFeist is a physics-based 2-D platform action game with puzzle elements.  You play as a little furry critter who has been captured by larger furry critters.  Now you must escape from your cage and survive a harsh forest wilderness where everything is out to get you.  The graphics look like everything is in shadows, similar to Limbo (though not near as scary).  Feist is available to download on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

LEGO Dimensions Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Story Pack & Fun Pack

LEGOBEASTS1This past Fall, one of the big hit movies was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is based in the Harry Potter universe.  I actually saw it with my brother and his girlfriend in the theater, mainly so I could review this game better.  My brother and his girlfriend are big Harry Potter fans, so they really enjoyed the movie.  I’m not as big of a fan of Harry Potter, so I didn’t like it as much as they did.  However, I did enjoy playing out parts from the movie in LEGO form with the Fantastic Beasts Story Pack for LEGO Dimensions way more than watching the movie.  It’s available for nearly all the current game consoles, but reviewed on Wii U here.  This review covers both the Story Pack and Fun Pack.

Hue (PS4, Vita, Xbox One, PC)

HUE_BOXHue is a 2-D platforming action puzzle game.  You play as Hue, a boy who finds himself in a colorless world.  After exploring for a bit, you’ll discover letters from a mysterious woman who has dabbled in some dangerous color experiments and has now made herself invisible.  It’s up to Hue to rescue her and solve the mystery.  Hue gains the power to change the background to several colors in the spectrum, which he uses to solve puzzles and bypass obstacles.  It’s kind of like a more puzzley version of Runbow.  Hue is available for the PS4, Vita, Xbox One, and PC, but reviewed on Vita here.

LEGO Dimensions Adventure Time Fun Pack (and Level Pack)

LEGOAT1Adventure Time is one of the most popular animated series on Cartoon Network, and there have been tons of games based on the franchise and I’ve reviewed most of them!  In fact, in the 20 plus years I’ve been reviewing games, out of all the licensed games I’ve reviewed, I’ve probably played more Adventure Time games than anything.  I don’t even really watch the show, I just know a lot about it from playing all the games!  And now they’re getting the blocky treatment in LEGO Dimensions.  Here are reviews of the Fun Pack and Level Pack from the series.  LEGO Dimensions is available for nearly all the current game consoles, but reviewed on Wii U here.
