New Year, New Game Unboxing Puppet!

Have you ever had an idea that you wanted to try, but lacked the time and/or knowledge to pull it off? But you decided to make do with what you have and try your best anyway to make it happen? Well that’s what I’ve been kind of doing over the past year with my game ‘unboxing’ articles. You see, I’ve seen many videos of people unboxing new games, showing off everything that comes with a collector’s edition and whatnot. Well, I thought it would be fun to do that, too, but instead of having me do the unboxing, I thought it would be fun to have a puppet do it! Just to be different. But I don’t have a video camera and I don’t have time to make a YouTube account, but I do have a digital camera and I do have a place where I can write articles, so I decided to start with that.

The Crazy Characters of King of Fighters XIII

Well folks, it’s time for my  King of Fighters XIII blog.  We’re mostly going to look at the different characters in the game, but I’ll warn you right now that this’ll be a pretty silly blog with my crazy observations about all the characters. I didn’t feel like doing too much research on them, so it’ll mostly be whatever thoughts go around my crazy head as I played the game. So think of this as an inside look as to all the silly thoughts that run through my head when I play one of these kinds of games.

Choplifter HD (Xbox 360, PS3)

Ahh, Choplifter. You and I go waaaay back. A lot of people think Choplifter started out as a Sega arcade title, but I remember playing it before that, on our first computer: an Apple ][+. This PC version of Choplifter was all black and white, and I was only about kindergarten age so it was a little hard for me to wrap my little head around some of the more complex helicopter controls (it wasn’t really that complex, though). But I did get the basic idea of the gameplay: pilot a helicopter from left to right and rescue little people on the ground while blowing up tanks and planes. Just don’t shoot the little houses the people lived in! Now, nearly 30 years later, you can relive this classic in high-def with Choplifter HD, a downloadable title on PSN and Xbox LIVE (360 version reviewed here).

Cary’s Pretend Zelda Orchestra Concert

I am a little sad today. Do you want to know why I’m sad? I’m sad today because there is a Legend of Zelda orchestra concert tonight here in Dallas near where I live, and I can’t go. I asked to be put on the mailing list and notified when tickets would be on sale, and since I’ve been to concerts in Dallas before, I always get newsletters and emails, too. But I was not notified about the Zelda concert until after it was already sold out! I have a couple of friends who were not notified either, even though they signed up to be told as well. So it makes me think they had some sort of special ticket pre-sell and didn’t tell anyone. That happens sometimes, even though it shouldn’t.

Cary’s “Best Games of the Year 2011 Awards Show!”

Welcome everyone to the “Cary’s Best Video Games of 2011 Awards Show!” I’m your host, Cary Woodham, and tonight we’ve got a lot of great special guests: two dogs, Missile the Pomeranian from Ghost Trick and Chibiterasu from Okamiden. Also, She-Hulk from Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Tifa from Dissidia 012, and Reiko Nagase from Ridge Racer 3D. Plus Rayne from BloodRayne: Betrayal and Toad from Mario Kart 7! Not to mention Wheatley from Portal 2 and other robot friends like Fi and Scrapper from Skyward Sword! OK, none of those are really guests, but I think if someone drew all those characters up on stage, that would be some pretty neat fanart, don’t you think? All right, enough silliness from me, let’s get onto the games!
