Nanolyte (iPad)

NANOLYTE_BOXIf you like puzzlers and have an iPad or other iOS device, you’re in for a real treat. Nanolyte is a color-matching puzzle game that’s free on the App store. Well, at least it was free when I downloaded it. I know things like that can change at a drop of the hat. But you should check it out anyway. The playfield is full of multicolored hexagons, and you must rotate them to match three in a row. It’s similar to the Xbox LIVE puzzle game Hexic (which is also free).

Little Amazon (iPad)

AMAZON_BOXHelp a little jungle girl break out of a cage and escape evil in this downloadable mobile game for iOS devices. Little Amazon is a continuously running 2-D platformer that’s similar to Jetpack Joyride, without the jetpack of course. When you start, you’ll constantly run to the right. Tap the jump icon to hop over obstacles, and use the attack icon to defeat any evil minions in your way. If you get hit, you’ll get captured and have to start at the cage again. The levels are randomly generated, so each run is different every time.

Ninja Toss (iPad)

NINJA_BOXIn Ninja Toss, you fling a fat ninja with a slingshot and see how far he’ll go. To start, tap the screen when the meter on the top of the screen is in the middle, and the fat ninja will be flung farther. You don’t really have much control over your ninja after that, but he’ll bounce on the ground for a little while, and you can use a special lighting attack with a tap on the screen to give him an extra boost. As he flies and bounces, the fat ninja will hit running critters that look like rice balls. Certain rice balls can help him bounce higher. When you can’t bounce anymore, you can play again to try and beat your score, or go to the shop with rice you’ve collected from bouncing on the rice ball people to buy upgrades so you can go farther next time.

ROBOT_BOXRobot Race is a downloadable iPad game that plays like a kart racer…with robots! Choose from one of several robots to race as, each with varying skills, and then compete in lap races, roller derby style (seriously, it looks like the robots are roller skating down the tracks). Do a quick race on a single track or compete in several races in a row to win a cup.

Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion (3DS)

MICKEY3DS_BOXOne of the highlights of the early days of the Sega Genesis in the 16-bit years was Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (this was even before Sonic the Hedgehog). Now, more than 20 years later, we get a direct sequel with Power of Illusion, which takes elements of the classic game and mixes them with gameplay ideas from the more recent Epic Mickey series. One day, in the Wasteland, a place where forgotten cartoon stars go, a mysterious castle appeared. It was the evil witch Mizrabel’s Castle of Illusion, and she’s none too happy about being forgotten! So she uses her magic to kidnap famous cartoon characters and traps them in her castle, in a plan to steal their heart power so she can go back to the toon world. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, caretaker of the Wasteland, calls upon Mickey Mouse once again to infiltrate her castle, rescue the toon-napped prisoners, and foil Mizrabel’s evil plans!
