Videogaming has its rockstar designers like Sid Meier, John Romero, and Shigeru Miyamoto. Boardgaming has its own list of elite designers and Uwe Rosenberg is among them. Best known for two games, the popular family game, Bohnanza, and his deeper strategy game, Agricola. Agricola is ranked the fourth most popular boardgame at BoardGameGeek.com even though it released seven years ago. Rosenberg has produced a few titles since Agricola, but his newest, Caverna, returns to many of the mechanics and themes of Agricola. While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of gaming seen in Agricola, Caverna is a solid title and may be a better choice for those looking for a title where a player can make mistakes and still be able to bounce back.

Unplugged: Timeline (Boardgame)

Timeline - American historyThere are educational activities that are presented as games, and games that are designed to be educational. Far too often, the former makes its way to the marketplace rather than the latter. This results in a negative attitude toward any game marked as “educational.” Thankfully, the series of games entitled “Timeline” contain an entertaining game while also stealthily teaching history.

The Silly Female Fighters of Arcana Heart 3: LOVE MAX!!!!!

ARCANAICON2I just got done reviewing a game called Arcana Heart 3: LOVE MAX!!!!! It’s a 2-D fighter featuring a cast of anime-styled female characters.  A lot of times when I play a new fighting game, I like to write a blog about the characters in that game.  At first I wasn’t going to do that with this one, but once I played it, I discovered that there a quite a few neat characters in it, and I thought it would be fun to write a little blog about them after all.  Keep in mind that I may miss secret characters and leave out details here and there.  But I’m just writing this as a fun, filler blog so you’re just going to have to deal with my nonsense.  So let’s take a look at the characters in this silly fighter.

Cary’s Adventures in the Magic Kingdom: Part 6: Islands of Adventure

ISLANDSLOGOLast time, we left off boarding the Hogwarts Express train from Universal Studios to Islands of Adventure, their sister theme park. Even though it was just a simple train ride, the Hogwarts Express ended up being one of the best rides at the park, due to the theming and atmosphere.  Find out why and see more of Islands of Adventure in this blog entry.

Cary’s Adventures in the Magic Kingdom: Part 5: Universal Studios

UNIVERSALLOGOOver the weekend we went to Universal Studios and its sister park: Islands of Adventure. In some ways, I actually liked Universal Studios better than some of the Disney parks.  Well, maybe not better than Epcot, but certainly better than Animal Kingdom or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  Read on to find out why!

Cary’s Adventures in the Magic Kingdom: Part 4: Disney’s Hollywood Studios

HOLLYWOOD LOGONext day we went to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I didn’t enjoy this park as much as I thought I would, though.  It was unusually crowded and hard to get around.  But there were still a lot of fun things to do so let’s take a look.

Cary’s Adventures in the Magic Kingdom: Part 3: Animal Kingdom

ANIMALKINGDOMLOGOThe next day we relaxed at the Typhoon Lagoon water park, but I didn’t take any picture there. I didn’t even bring my camera because, you know, it’s a water park.  But the day after we went to Animal Kingdom, one of the newer Disney parks.  I’m not as big of a fan of Animal Kingdom, though.  Don’t get me wrong, I like animals and all, but there’s not as much to do at this park and it seems like there are less animals at this park and more people dressed up as animals.

Cary’s Adventures in the Magic Kingdom: Part 1: Epcot

EPCOT LOGOHey folks. Last week I went on vacation to Disney World with my dad’s side of the family, and I took tons of pictures and did lots of things.  So I decided to share them in a week-long blog series!  Since Epcot has always been my favorite of the parks, and we did that first, we’ll start with that.
