Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (Wii U, 3DS, PS3, 360, PC)
For more than 30 years, Pac-Man has delighted gamers all across the world, and he’s still popular after all this time. In fact, Pac-Man has a brand new cartoon airing on Disney XD right now called Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. I wrote an article about it a couple of months ago, you can check it out here (and while you’re at it, you can read about the iPad game that goes along with it). Now there is a home console video game based on Pac-Man’s new cartoon adventures. It’s available for most of the current consoles, but reviewed on Wii U here. I’ll be reviewing the 3DS version separately, as it’s a different kind of game. In the Wii U title, the leader of the ghosts Betrayus has stolen a giant freeze ray, and now Pac-Man and friends must stop him from using it to turn everyone into Pac-sicles. Help Pac-Man chomp ghosts and overcome obstacles in this 3-D platform jumping adventure.
BeyBlade: Evolution (3DS)
After all these years, kids still play with tops. But now, they battle with each other with custom tops and arenas for them to spin and bash around in. The most popular battle top toy line, BeyBlade, is still around after all these years. And now there is a new video game based on this franchise using the unique capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS handheld.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Wii, 360, 3DS)
SpongeBob Squarepants: Plankton’s Robotic Revenge (PS3, 360, DS, 3DS, Wii U, Wii)
Plankton has built an army of robots to steal Mr. Krabs’ secret Krabby Patty recipe once again, and now it’s up to SpongeBob and friends to stop him. Play as Patrick, Sandy, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and the yellow sponge himself in this action-brawler/shooter. Based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon sensation, SpongeBob Squarepants: Plankton’s Robotic Revenge is available for nearly all the current game consoles, but reviewed on PS3 here.
Regular Show: Ghost Toasters (iPad)
For the week of Halloween, we’re going to celebrate here at GamerDad with some spooky kid-friendly iPad games! The first is based on one of my favorite Cartoon Network TV programs: Regular Show. In the game, Mordecai and Rigby are horsing around while driving the park golf cart when they crash into the hot dog stand. The impact sends hot dogs with a special ghostly sauce into the graveyard, awakening thousands of ghosts that threaten to invade the park. Luckily the hot dog vendor gives our two heroes special ghost weapons to stop the spirits from taking over their park. Ghost Toasters is available for iOS devices, but reviewed on iPad here.
Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Special Editions (PS3, 360, PC)
One of the highest rated TV quiz game shows (is it still on?) is back in video game form! Downloadable for PS3, 360, and Steam (reviewed on PS3 here), try your hand at over a thousand trivia questions to win a million dollars. Download special themed question packs (like movie trivia) for even more fun.
Wipeout: Create & Crash (3DS, Wii, Wii U, 360)
The popular TV obstacle course game show (is it even still on?) is back in video game form for the fourth time! The previous games kind of ‘wiped out’ so to speak, but they may have hit the right mark with this one. Not only does this entry have better controls and endless amounts of obstacles and courses, but now you can create your own challenges, too! It’s available for 3DS, Wii, Wii U, and 360, but reviewed on 3DS here.
Disney Infinity (PS3, Wii U, 360, 3DS, Wii)
Recently a report went out saying that Skylanders is the top selling action figure line here in the US. Now Disney wants of piece of the action, too! So here comes Disney Infinity, a video game action figure combo where you place popular Disney character figures on a stand and then you can play as them in the Disney Infinity game! It’s available for nearly all the current popular game consoles, but the PS3 version is reviewed here.
DuckTales: Remastered (PS3, Wii U, 360, PC)
Phineas & Ferb: Quest for Cool Stuff (Wii U, Wii, 3DS, DS, 360)
In Disney Channel’s hit cartoon series, Phineas and Ferb, two boys (the title characters), try and cram as much outlandish fun as they can in the summer break before school starts. Now you and your kids can have one last summer bash with the gang and help them find artifacts for their backyard Museum of Cool Stuff (Wii version reviewed here).
