GamerDad and family Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad - and I've been writing about videogames, movies, and children for over 15 years now. After working as a magazine journalist, I switched gears to write about how media violence affects children, educating parents about them, and working closely with magazines, newspapers, major retailers and even politicians. GamerDad is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Games, movies and media are fun, kids and families love them, they aren't going away. So join me in cutting through the hype and lets have a real conversation about the things that matter: Video Games, Violent Media, and their supposed effect on children and families.

Hyperdimension Neptunia MK2 (PS3)

Set three years after the events of the first Hyperdimension Neptunia, the land of “Gameindustri” is in peril again! A new religious sect is taking over the minds and hearts of the people in the land (which pokes fun of video games), and they have evil intentions. What’s worse, the main Goddess heroines in the first game have been captured, so it’s up to the younger sisters of the heroes to step up to the task with a little help from characters old and new. Can their younger counterparts master the Goddess’ transformation skills and save the world once more?

League of Legends (PC)

Several years ago, when Warcraft III was the real-time strategy game of the moment, Blizzard released tools for gamers to create their own levels and units for the game. Some enterprising programmers designed a level that focused on team play between two teams of hero units, each with a few special powers that improved during the game. Thus an entirely new subgenre of real-time strategy, Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA), was born. Fast forward to late 2009, and Riot Games released League of Legends (LoL for short). Entirely free to download and play, League of Legends is an excellent opportunity for PC gamers to enjoy this new style of game. The game deserves a look from any real-time strategy fan, as it manages to combine an RTS style game with a healthy dose of Role playing (as your hero gains levels and items) all in a quick 30-40 minutes of game play.

Cary’s Top Five Favorite Non-RPG Pokemon Games!

In honor of the release of PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond for Wii this week, I thought I’d talk about my favorite non-RPG Pokemon games. Usually when a new main Pokemon RPG comes out, like Black or White (kind of weird that the next games are sequels to those), everyone gets all excited. And when a Pokemon game comes out that’s not an RPG, a lot of people say they wished for another Pokemon RPG. But I think I like the non-RPG Pokemon games a little better. Here’s why:
