Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad - and I've been writing about videogames, movies, and children for over 15 years now. After working as a magazine journalist, I switched gears to write about how media violence affects children, educating parents about them, and working closely with magazines, newspapers, major retailers and even politicians. GamerDad is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Games, movies and media are fun, kids and families love them, they aren't going away. So join me in cutting through the hype and lets have a real conversation about the things that matter: Video Games, Violent Media, and their supposed effect on children and families.

Catlord (Switch)
There’s a popular game I’ve been hearing about over the past year or so called Vampire Survivor. It’s a top down retro styled game where you have to fight off waves of enemies, and when you die you can spend your winnings to upgrade your character so you can survive longer next time. And with any popular game, there will be imitators, and here’s one called Catlord on Switch. But instead of a vampire killer, you are a cat and must defeat waves of animals like chickens, dogs, snakes, ducks, etc.
Escape from Terror City (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)
You can tell the same folks who made the Thunder Kid games also made this one, as they both feature low poly (and rather ugly) 3D graphics. But while Thunder Kid focused more on running and gunning with some platforming mixed in, Escape from Terror City focuses more on aiming and shooting. It’s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
D&D Plushies – The Return of Plush
Last winter, I was sent some Dungeons and Dragons figurines http://www.gamerdad.com/blog/2021/12/04/dd-plushies-cuddly-deadly/ from Wizkids with one key component: they weren’t plastic miniatures, they were stuffed “animals.” A year later and the stuffed line of toys/collectibles (Phunny Plush by Kid Robot) continues, expanding into the Pathfinder and Critical Role brands.
Pizza Pixel Podcast Episode 19: Top Five Favorite Video Game Movies
On this episode of the podcast, we’re doing something a little bit different. Usually one of my brothers hosts the show with me, but this time we’re having a special guest. A good friend and co-worker of mine named Noah is here this time. And we’ll be talking about our favorite video game based movies, as well as a bunch of not so favorites! Please click on the link and give it a listen, and let me know your favorite video game based movies as well!
Alchemic Cutie (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)
Alchemic Cutie is a farming sim that combines aspects from two other popular agriculture games: Stardew Valley and Slime Rancher. You play as Yvette, a young lady who has just graduated from Alchemy School. She lives with her family on their slime farm, and now she’ll use her newfound skills to raise and breed slimes and help out the townsfolk. Alchemic Cutie is available on all current game consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
Wildagotchi (Switch, Mobile)
Mario Oreos
A couple of years ago, Oreo made some cookies with Pokémon characters on them! And now they’re back but with Mario characters. So let’s take a look at them!
900 MAX HX (Headphones)
I was recently offered a RIG 900 MAX HX (yes, all caps) headphone to try out, and so I did. It is a somewhat high-end headset for use with an Xbox or PC. It comes with a boom mic, USB or Bluetooth connections, and a spiffy charging dock. I found the headset extremely comfortable, easy to use, and sounded great but it was a bit frustrating to use switching between sources. On comfort alone, it beats out all the other headsets I’ve had over the past few years.
Pups and Purrs Pet Shop (Switch)
Now you can work at a pet store with Pups and Purrs Pet Shop. Do retail themed mini-games like scan barcodes, clean the floors, and stick on prices as well as take care of pets. All sorts of cats and dogs are waiting for you to play mini-games to brush, feed, and play with them. And when they’re ready, you can find forever homes for them, too! This is actually a sequel/spinoff to a game I reviewed a couple of years ago called Pups and Purrs Animal Hospital.
Giant Wishes (Switch)
A lady who runs a flower shop is tired of being mistreated by all the men in her village, so she seeks out a giant lady who may be able to help her turn into a giant herself. Giant Wishes is a visual novel on Switch. Normally I don’t review these, but every once in a while I may try one to see if I like them better. It hasn’t happened yet, though.
