Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad - and I've been writing about videogames, movies, and children for over 15 years now. After working as a magazine journalist, I switched gears to write about how media violence affects children, educating parents about them, and working closely with magazines, newspapers, major retailers and even politicians. GamerDad is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Games, movies and media are fun, kids and families love them, they aren't going away. So join me in cutting through the hype and lets have a real conversation about the things that matter: Video Games, Violent Media, and their supposed effect on children and families.

Street Fighter World Warrior Encyclopedia: Arcade Edition
Udon Entertainment publishes a lot of artbooks and comics featuring Capcom characters, especially ones from the Street Fighter series. I was lucky enough to get a review copy of one of their newest artbooks, the Street Fighter World Warrior Encyclopedia: Arcade Edition! It features information and artwork of every character in the series! So let’s take a look at it! Plus a surprise bonus!
Skimboard Hero (Mobile)
Enjoy one last bit of summer with Skimboard Hero! But what is Skimboarding? Yeah I didn’t know either until I played this game. Who says games don’t teach you anything! Anyway, Skimboarding is kind of like surfing except you use a smaller board and you ride the small wake waves near the shore. And that’s what you do in this game, which is like a vertically scrolling endless…surfer? Collect sand dollars, jump over ramps, perform tricks, and avoid obstacles. The game also has neat retro graphics. It’s available for free on mobile devices, but reviewed on iPad here.
Kandagawa Jet Girls (PS4, PC)
In Kandagawa Jet Girls, you race futuristic water jet bikes around rivers in Tokyo. Your drivers are two young anime ladies, one steers and the other shoots a water gun at other racers to slow them down. Kind of reminds me of Mario Kart: Double Dash in a way. Apparently this game is based on an anime cartoon as well. Huh, I didn’t know that. Learn something new every day. Anyway, this game is available on PS4 and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
The Games of the Turbo Grafx-16 Mini Wrap Up
Quiplash (Switch, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, PC, Mobile)
Fibbage XL (Switch, PC, Mobile)
If you are stuck at home right now and want to play a multiplayer game with family and friends, but you don’t have enough controllers, then Jackbox has you covered! One of their most popular titles, Fibbage XL, has come to Nintendo Switch, and you use cell phones or other mobile devices to play it! Just connect to jackbox.tv on any phone, enter in the room code, and you’re in!
The Games of the Turbo Grafx-16 Mini: Part 5
One final part of my blog series on the TG-16 Mini! Last time we looked at some of the games on the Japanese PC Engine side, and now we’ll look at the rest of them. The games in this batch I’m more familiar with, because they were released in the US in some form or fashion either on this console, other consoles, or in the arcade. And they’re also made by well-known companies like Namco, Capcom, SEGA, Taito, and Konami. OK let’s finish this off!
Drink More Glurp (Switch, PC)
What if aliens from another planet watched Earth’s sporting events and wanted to try them for themselves. Would they get the sports right? Maybe, but maybe not. Drink More Glurp is a physics-based track and field style sports multiplayer game with goofy product sponsors and even sillier events. It’s available on Switch and PC but reviewed on Switch here.
Hamster Bob (Switch)
I still remember the very first game I beat on my own. It was Mickey’s Space Adventure on our family’s Apple ][+. The game was kind of a mix between a text adventure like Zork but had pictures and word cues like a point and click adventure. I just remember the sense of pride and accomplishment I got after beating it. And yeah it was a game for little kids, but I WAS a little kid at the time! It just stuck with me and is why I have a strong interest in educational games for kids. I never pooh-pooh those kinds of games like a lot of other reviewers do, I always welcomed meeting with companies like Humongous when I wrote for The Dallas Morning News, and it’s why I still write for GamerDad.com now! So I’m really glad to get the opportunity to review Hamster Bob, an interactive coloring book adventure on Switch for the youngest gamers.
The Games of the TG-16 Mini: Part 4
As I mentioned in previous TG-16 Mini blogs, the Mini has two different menus you can choose from. One has US releases on the TG-16 side, and one has Japanese games on the PC Engine side. Since we’ve gone over all the US releases, now we’ll look at the Japanese ones. I’ll split these into two blog parts. In the first one we’ll look at the Japanese games I’m not so familiar with, and then in the final blog we’ll look at the games I’m more familiar with. So let’s get started!
