Tak is a young shaman in training who stars in his own computer animated Nickelodeon cartoon. In The Guardians of Gross, Tak accidentally releases four of the most putrid giant golems ever, and now he’ll have to learn some equally gross magic himself to seal away the behemoths before they stink up the jungle.
Game Review: Fallout 3 (PC / XBOX360 / PS3, Rated M)

Fallout 3 is an interesting game – it is one that has inspired some of the greatest pre-release angst and discord in the history of gaming for several reasons. First, it is a new entry into one of the classic franchises of gaming, made a decade after the last entry. Second, the look, feel and playstyle are nothing like the original games. Finally, it was being developed by the same folks who brought us Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The last one is interesting because depending on several things, that is either a really good thing or a really bad thing. But in the end Fallout 3 was finally release and can be judged for what it is – a game. So how does it do? Read on and find out!
Game Review: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (Wii)

Based on the computer animated movie sequel, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is a 3-D romp through scenes and settings from the film. Young gamers can play as their favorite Madagascar animal, like Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo, and others. The game is available for all the current gaming consoles, but the Wii version is reviewed here. So does Madagascar 2 fall into mediocrity like so many other movie based video games do? Game Review: National Geographic: Panda (DS)

A couple of years ago when visiting family in Georgia, we went to the Atlanta Zoo. The most memorable thing about that trip to the zoo is we got to see a couple of pandas real up close. They were just behind a glass wall, just inches from us. The male panda had his butt facing us the entire time, he was more interested in the long stalks of bamboo the zoo keepers kept shoving through a little window. But the female panda was more affectionate. She came right up to us and leaned on the glass while we made petting motions on the other side. As she sat down she looked up at us like how a dog looks at you when you pet it. Enough to melt your heart right there. Now you can interact with virtual pandas on your DS with National Geographic: Panda. Is it as good as a trip to the zoo? Read on to find out:
This Week in Games: Jan. 25 – 31

Not too much of note this week. The two biggest releases this week are the multi-platform Afro Samurai and Coraline, both based on licensed franchised – the first a cartoon and the second the upcoming stop-motion film. Spotlight on Stafy!

Most gamers are familiar with Nintendo’s popular characters, as they are known pretty well worldwide. But there’s one long running Nintendo series, with five games under its belt, which has stayed exclusively in Japan. And they all star Stafy, a little heroic starfish who has his own series of cute little 2-D platformers on the GBA and DS. I just imported the most recent one, fifth in the series, so I figured I’d write a little blog about this little known Nintendo character.
Marble Saga: Kororinpa (Wii) Preview

Have you ever played with one of those wooden marble maze games where you have to tilt it around to roll the ball to the goal? The Nintendo Wii certainly has its share of titles that simulate that classic game, using the Wii remote to tilt the environment around. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, Dewey’s Adventure…but the best and most fun example of this style of game was a little known early Wii title called Korornipa: Marble Mania. This spring, we’ll see a sequel called Marble Saga: Kororinpa. I recently got a chance to try a short demo of this upcoming game, read on to find out how it rolls:
GamerMom: The Update

As some of you know, and the rest can read a little further down the page, Linda, the GamerMom, twisted her knee real bad while at the world famous Rollero roller rink (of Cudahy, WI) while falling on her daughter. Basically Maggie and her skates became locked and Linda fell in a way that hurt her, but left Maggie unscathed. Maggie’s looking forward to skating again, so that’s all good, and Linda is getting used to being a patient. This is a very big deal.
GamerBoy: The Beginning

I’m the GamerDad, I’m an expert, 10 years professional experience, host of credits, blah, blah, blah. . . I’m also a gaming advocate and because of this most people assume that my kids play games ALL the time. Actually I’m willing to bet my kids play less than the national average and much less than most of my audience’s kids. The reason why has always been because it is my work. Because Linda isn’t much of a gamer (this is changing rapidly). And it is because I don’t like gaming when conversation could be had instead. I’ve been the stay-at-home parent but up until very recently, I didn’t game in front of the kids. I have an office, that’s what it’s for. more…
