Defending Camelot (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)

It’s only been a couple of months and I’m already reviewing another Plants vs. Zombies imitator in a fantasy setting!  The witch Morgan is taking over the land, and King Arthur has teamed up with the creatures of the forest to stop her.  Place your troops in Plants vs. Zombies style fashion to defeat monsters in Defending Camelot.  It’s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

If you’ve played Plants vs. Zombies before, you’ll know what to do here.  Move around a cursor to place troops.  Farmers will grant you more coins faster so you can buy other troops.  Archers will shoot approaching enemies from a distance, scarecrows will defend a spot, TNT will blow up enemies, etc.  When all enemies are defeated, you can move onto the next round.  But if the baddies make it to your flags, you’ll have to start the level over.

You can also unlock an endless mode and place troops in barracks to earn coins when you aren’t playing.  You can spend coins to buy more troops, but it sure takes a lot!   If you haven’t played a game like this before, I’d recommend starting out with the Plants vs. Zombies remake I reviewed last year, but if you can’t get enough of that style of gameplay, here’s another one for you.

Kid Factor:

Defending Camelot is rated E-10 with ESRB descriptors of Fantasy Violence and Tobacco Reference.  I didn’t notice any tobacco, but you do hit cartoony monsters with weapons, explosions, and magic.  Defeated characters just fall over and disappear.  Reading skill is helpful for the text, and younger gamers may need help with the tougher levels.
