Little Mac’s Punch-Out!
“Dance like a fly, Sting like a mosquito!” says your Trainer in the following video. Most folks just a bit younger than me fondly recall Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out. I don’t, I’ve never played it. Oh-ho! But I have played the arcade version of Punch Out – Glass Joe, Piston Hurricane, Bald Bull, but no Tyson – enough to believe that all the quarters I’ve spent on it would add up to … well I could use some cash for a press release or two! Click “More” for the funny satirical video advertising the game, new form Nintendo. more…

Adventures in Green Dining – Mother’s Day DS Lite
Spring is in the air, and Nintendo has just released a new color of the DS Lite to match. When I first saw photos, the bright spring green color cried out to me (Half my wardrobe, and often my hair, is green.) Conveniently released a week before Mother’s Day, the new DS Lite comes with the Personal Trainer: Cooking cartridge and a nice floral patterned canvas carrying case. At first glance, it looks like a great Mother’s Day present for my wife, until I realized that it might come across as a glorified cookbook. I’ve been married long enough to know better than to get my wife a cookbook for Mother’s Day. Perhaps I have a better idea…
Happy “Mama’s” Day!
In honor of Mother’s Day coming up this next weekend (you didn’t forget, did you?), I thought I’d do a blog about one of video games most famous mothers: Cooking (and now Gardening) Mama. Happy Mother’s Day! Let’s get cooking!
RIP Dom Deluise
Dom Deluise died this morning in his sleep. I have to admit, I thought I was not a fan. I found him hammy. But reading the obits today made me sadder then I thought I would be. The man has appeared in far too many movies I adore than any character actor I like (and I like Westerns and Mob films). I remember him most from the beginning of the Muppet Movie. “Al-ey-gay-tors!” The above still is from his appearance on the Muppet Show. I also remembered “Smokey” and, of course, “Cannonball Run” (a movie I’m both glad and shocked hasn’t been revived by Bret Ratner or McG). If you were a kid in the 70’s (and it looks like 50’s and 60’s too) you remember Dom for being on TV all the time. His career began in 1954 and IMDB lists a cameo in a horror-comedy called Horrorween (sounds terrible). But that’s not the point. Dom was an affable, good-hearted, joyful, employed character actor.
Unplugged: New D&D – now free to download
Almost a year ago, Wizards of the Coast revealed the newest version of their popular role playing game, Dungeons and Dragons. This fourth edition of the game (known as 4E D&D) was designed to be easier to learn, faster playing, and better balanced. I’ve been playing the new version for about a year and my conservative favoritism has blossomed into a positive enthusiasm for the new system. If you haven’t taken a look at the new version or haven’t ever tried D&D before, now is your chance. Wizards of the Coast has just released everything you need to get started as a free download! Read on to find out the details…

Happy 38 to Me
Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday Dear me-eee. Happy Birthday to me! 4/25/71 I’m 38 and glad t0 still be here! Got tickets to Wilco from a friend, tickets to Neko Case from my wife. Drawings from my kids, oddities from my brother and sister in law, and a check, from my parents. The powers that be have also given me my health, my family, and my beloved Basset Hound. I am healthy! Feels good! Except I’ve heard from my children that I just might look like a monkey, and worse, smell like one too! I’d better look into that.
The Ridge Racer Blog
I have a good friend who is doing a bunch of articles about racing video games right now. But there’s only one problem. You see, he’s doing all these writeups, and then he told me he’s NOT going to an article about Ridge Racer! How dare he! I should just…just…well, do what he told me to do! Write my own blog about Ridge Racer! And that’s what I’m going to do! Only problem is that my Ridge Racer blog won’t be near as insightful as it would be if he wrote it! It’s just going to be silly stuff floating around in my head as usual. But hey, he’s not going to write about Ridge Racer so you’ll just have to settle for me!
Ask GamerDad 4/10/09
So what if I turned this in over a month ago. So what if there’s still a couple more in the backlog, it’s not my fault, What They Play seems a little shaken up lately. Hope that’s not the case but it’s not my business really. With this one I decided to use one coherant and well-reasoned (if not well-written) essay a 15-year old sent me and then worked through the essay addressing his points. I think it’s a great read.
