PSP-3000 … might want to hold that purchase …
Whether you are someone who has never owned a PSP but were considering a new one, or someone who had the original and thought that the latest incarnation provided the differentiation that the PSP-Slim did not, or like me and start frothing at the mouth when the word ‘new portable electronics device’ are used in a sentence, you are aware that Sony’s new PSP-3000 has been released and is available in most stores. I’ve yet to grab one, and based on new reports I am going to hold off – and suggest you do the same. Read on to find out why. more…
NYT: Gaming leads to mass reading?
According to a recent article in the New York Times titled “The Future of Reading: Using Video Games as Bait to Hook Readers”, new efforts to bring video games into traditional literary areas are happening due to “that video games also may teach a kind of digital literacy that is becoming as important as proficiency in print”. One quote postulates “I wouldn’t be surprised if, in 10 or 20 years, video games are creating fictional universes which are every bit as complex as the world of fiction of Dickens or Dostoevsky”. Also, they discuss how rich game worlds such as the one in Postal 2 have opened a dialogue around issues of race, religion and gender sensitivity. more…
NHL 09 – Budding Hockey Dad
When I was a lad in College back in 1993-94 we had a dorm tradition involving a certain kind of herbal smoke, a certain kind of fermented beverage, and wine flavored jug – did we party with togas on? Did we break stuff and pull pranks on the wicked old Dean? Did we socialize with women at all? No, no, and no. We had NHL tournaments on SEGA Genesis. And it was oh so good.

Dead Space Cassarole
For a disgusting adult flavored holiday treat mix two cups of James Cameron’s Aliens and ID Software’s Doom 3 as a base. Then add a healthy dollop of Bioshock, System Shock 1 & 2, and pretty much every other occult/space themed horror 3D shooter. Cook until a fork comes cleanly from its bleeding and lacerated heart … then frost in goo made from Resident Evil IV pureed with creme d’Half-Life 2.

Saints Row 2 Content Review
I also have one of those big “10 Things Parents Should Know About” articles coming on this one. I’ve been back in a criminal city. Same as GTA IV, only here I’m a hispanic 6’6 300 redhead who speaks with a Spanish Accent. I can’t explain that. Here’s the content review for the game that gets no respect or reputation. Xbox 360 & PS3.
It’s a (little) big world afterall
The Playstation 3 exclusive LittleBigPlanet does not go on sale until the end of the month, but a few (thousand) lucky people have already been able to play with the beta. As it has been one of my most anticipated titles for Sony’s big black machine, I’m very grateful that I am one of those lucky people.
Read on for my brief first impressions after a couple hours’ worth of play, and why it made my daughter cry.
GamerDad Family: Quotes
I mentioned doing something for the BBC earlier, what we had to do was speak into a minidisc player via a comically large radio microphone. We sat on the couch – I did not, repeat, did not – prepare the children and we started talking. Two takes later we’d convinced, mostly through threats of DS confiscation, that this was NOT a time to start making fart noises and laughing really loud.
