Adventure Time: BMO Snaps (iPad)
Adventure Time is one of Cartoon Network’s most popular shows, and I’ve probably reviewed more Adventure Time games than any other cartoon license out there. Since I’ve been doing this for nearly 20 years now, that’s saying something! In fact, most of my Adventure Time knowledge comes from the games, because I really don’t watch the cartoon much. Anyway, all of the Adventure Time games up to this point have starred Finn and Jake, which makes sense because they’re the main characters in the cartoon. But finally, we have an Adventure Time game starring another character, and it also happens to be my favorite one: BMO! BMO Snaps is a picture-taking arcade shooting gallery game downloadable for iOS devices (reviewed on iPad here).
Cary’s Best Games of the Year 2015 Awards Show!
Can you believe that 2015 is already over? What I like to do around this time is write about the best games of the past year. Keep in mind that no outside opinions went into the making of this list. It’s just my own picks. And if a game is missing from my list, it either didn’t appeal to me as much, or I just simply haven’t played it yet. Can’t play all the games out there, you know! Plus I do apologize if this list leans toward the Nintendo side. I don’t have an Xbox One or PS4 yet, so you’ll just have to deal with it. So with that out of the way, welcome to my Best Games of 2015 Awards Show!
Pokémon Picross (3DS)
There’s a new free-to-play Pokémon puzzle game that you can download on the 3DS, and this one is based on the logic picture puzzler Picross. Use number clues to reveal pictures of Pokémon, and then catch them so they can help you solve future puzzles! Since the game was free to start, I decided to write a little review of it anyway.
Nintendo Badge Arcade (3DS)
Animal Crossing 2016 Calendar
Happy New Year! Usually every year for Christmas, I get a new calendar for the coming year. For the past few years, it’s been a video game related calendar and I’ve usually written about it here. Well this year it’s the same way as I got an Animal Crossing calendar! So I thought I’d share some pictures of it along with a few other things I got for Christmas.
Rodea: The Sky Soldier (Wii U, 3DS)
Emperor Geardo rules a terrestrial land that is having an energy crisis, so he plans to invade the floating islands of Garuda because they have a limitless energy source. Once every 1,000 years, Garuda floats over Emperor Geardo’s land, so he plans to use an artifact called the Time Key to make Garuda stop moving. The princess of Garuda and her humanoid robot bodyguard Rodea snatch the Time Key and split it into two, preventing this from happening. But when Geardo attacks, the princess and Rodea are separated and Rodea falls into a desert and gets buried for 1,000 years! He is discovered by a mechanic on Garuda, but when they return home, a hologram of the Emperor threatens to take over again! Can Rodea protect the floating islands and prevent history from repeating itself? Rodea: The Sky Soldier is available for Wii U and 3DS, but reviewed on Wii U here.
Minecraft Story Mode: Episode 2: Assembly Required (PS3, PS4, 360, Xbox One, PC, iOS, Android)
Minecraft is an incredibly popular open-world building adventure game with stylishly blocky graphics. It’s become a bit of a phenomenon since its release a few years back, especially with kids. And now, point and click experts TellTale Games has crafted an adventure based on the Minecraft universe called Minecraft: Story Mode. It is split up into five episodes, like most other TellTale titles, and this is a review of the second episode. It’s available for nearly all current home consoles, PCs, and tablets, but reviewed on PS3 here.
Moco Moco Friends (3DS)
In a magical, pastel-colored land live creatures called Plushkins. They are like stuffed animals that are alive. Wild Plushkins live in dungeons and other outside areas, and can sometimes be dangerous to people, so it’s up to trained witches to tame Plushkins so they can help everyone out. Play as Moco, a young girl witch-in-training and help her to become a Plushkin master in this entry-level dungeon crawler RPG for the Nintendo 3DS.
Family Fishing (3DS)
Family Fishing is a quick-play, arcade action competitive fishing game from Arc System Works, makers of popular 2-D fighting games like BlazBlue and Guilty Gear (oh man, wouldn’t it be cool to play a fishing game with characters from those series?). Play as a member of a family out on a fishing trip, and in a given time limit, try to catch more and better fish than everyone else. Family Fishing is available to download on 3DS.
