GamerDad and family Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad - and I've been writing about videogames, movies, and children for over 15 years now. After working as a magazine journalist, I switched gears to write about how media violence affects children, educating parents about them, and working closely with magazines, newspapers, major retailers and even politicians. GamerDad is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Games, movies and media are fun, kids and families love them, they aren't going away. So join me in cutting through the hype and lets have a real conversation about the things that matter: Video Games, Violent Media, and their supposed effect on children and families.

Adventure Time: BMO Snaps (iPad)

BMO_BOXAdventure Time is one of Cartoon Network’s most popular shows, and I’ve probably reviewed more Adventure Time games than any other cartoon license out there. Since I’ve been doing this for nearly 20 years now, that’s saying something!  In fact, most of my Adventure Time knowledge comes from the games, because I really don’t watch the cartoon much.  Anyway, all of the Adventure Time games up to this point have starred Finn and Jake, which makes sense because they’re the main characters in the cartoon.  But finally, we have an Adventure Time game starring another character, and it also happens to be my favorite one: BMO!  BMO Snaps is a picture-taking arcade shooting gallery game downloadable for iOS devices (reviewed on iPad here).

Cary’s Best Games of the Year 2015 Awards Show!

SQUIDCan you believe that 2015 is already over? What I like to do around this time is write about the best games of the past year.  Keep in mind that no outside opinions went into the making of this list.  It’s just my own picks.  And if a game is missing from my list, it either didn’t appeal to me as much, or I just simply haven’t played it yet.  Can’t play all the games out there, you know!  Plus I do apologize if this list leans toward the Nintendo side.  I don’t have an Xbox One or PS4 yet, so you’ll just have to deal with it.  So with that out of the way, welcome to my Best Games of 2015 Awards Show!

Animal Crossing 2016 Calendar

AC2016_1Happy New Year! Usually every year for Christmas, I get a new calendar for the coming year.  For the past few years, it’s been a video game related calendar and I’ve usually written about it here.  Well this year it’s the same way as I got an Animal Crossing calendar!  So I thought I’d share some pictures of it along with a few other things I got for Christmas.
