Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad - and I've been writing about videogames, movies, and children for over 15 years now. After working as a magazine journalist, I switched gears to write about how media violence affects children, educating parents about them, and working closely with magazines, newspapers, major retailers and even politicians. GamerDad is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Games, movies and media are fun, kids and families love them, they aren't going away. So join me in cutting through the hype and lets have a real conversation about the things that matter: Video Games, Violent Media, and their supposed effect on children and families.

Flat Kingdom: Paper’s Cut Edition (Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, PC)
In a pop-up book paper kingdom, magical jewels keep things in balance. But when a ninja steals the jewels, it’s up to a little brave hero to save the day. This little hero can fold into different shapes to solve puzzles, bypass obstacles, and defeat enemies. Flat Kingdom: Paper’s Cut Edition is a 2-D puzzle platformer and is available on nearly all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.
Big Bang Pro Wrestling (Switch)
Regular readers of my reviews and podcast may know that I’m a big fan of SNK and their handheld NEO GEO Pocket Color. It came out in the late 90s to compete with the Game Boy Color and had some awesome games on it. Including one I even liked more than Pokémon (SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash). A lot of NGPC games have been re-released on the Switch in the past couple of years, and the newest one to enter the ring is Big Bang Pro Wrestling. I had never heard of this one, which surprised me, but then, I’ve never been into wrestling games. I figured it was one that had never been released in the US, but the game is in English so maybe it was!
Wife Quest (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)
Humble farmer Fernando happily lives with his devoted, yet hot-headed wife Mia. But one day, demon girls decide to kidnap Fernando and try to tempt him away from Mia, but she’s not having any of that! Mia takes up her sword and goes after those licentious demons in Wife Quest, a 2-D platformer with pixel art style graphics. It’s available on most current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
Splash Cars (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC, Mobile)
Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure (PS4, Switch, Xbox One, PC, Mobile)
Back in the early 90s, game maker Williams made a pinball table based on the iconic Indiana Jones movie franchise. And now you can play it on Zen Studios’ pinball platforms! It’s available on most current consoles that have a Pinball FX3 or Zen Pinball outlet. You first download that and then you can buy and download separate tables (reviewed on PS4 here).
Phantom Breaker: Omnia (PS4, Switch, Xbox One, PC)
Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a 2-D one-on-one fighting game with anime styled characters. Most of them are girls, but there are a few guys in there. Each one gets a magical weapon from an old man and they battle each other with them in the Story Mode. There are more than a dozen fighters in all, and include a maid café waitress, robot girl, shrine maiden, and more. It’s available on most current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
Pretty Girls Breakers! (PS4, PS5, Switch)
Pac-Man Goes to Brunch
As you all might know, I’m a HUGE fan of Pac-Man. Last year, I saw some Pac-Man figurines you could import that had Pac-Man and the ghost monsters surrounded by brunch and breakfast food related items. I thought this was a pretty unique concept and really wanted them, but they were kind of expensive. I asked for them for Christmas and didn’t think I’d get them, but I did! So now let’s take a look at them!
Music Racer: Ultimate (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, X/S)
Plunderer’s Adventures (Switch, PC)
Build up a crew of pixel lady pirates in this tower defense style game that plays a bit like Plants vs. Zombies. You’ll control a female captain and can move up and down and shoot. Defend your crew on the left side of the screen by shooting enemy pirates and monsters coming in on the right. Plunderer’s Adventures is available on Switch and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.
