Another round of nifty little plastic figures have been released by WizKids. A new line of minis complements the recent Pathfinder Curse of the Crimson Throne adventure path. In addition, two special sets of player-character minis have been released under the Dungeons and Dragon label. The pair of releases are interesting because each contains the same six characters, but the first release shows them at a low level while the follow-up release arms the miniatures with much more advanced and/or epic looking weapons, armor, and tools. As usual, these prepainted minis aren’t cheap, but they’re fun to have on hand to help set the tone and sort through the complexities of battle.

The Pathfinder RPG keeps chugging along with recent releases including a remake of the urban-based adventure-path (campaign), the Curse of the Crimson Throne. Other supplements include the Bestiary 6 (with a number of high-level monsters) and the Adventurer’s Guide full of secret and not-so-secret organizations for your world. I’ve also recently found out Paizo has even made the content of well over a dozen of the game’s rules and supplements freely accessible online!

SnipperClips’ unique cooperative puzzle gameplay shows off Nintendo’s classic family-friendly innovation in gaming. Two players overlap their on-screen shapes in order to cut out parts to create a new shape. This can be repeated until the players create the shapes needed to solve the puzzle. SnipperClips endearing characters and creative gameplay make a perfect, if somewhat short, cooperative title for any Switch owner’s library.

As a “free to play” online game, Neverwinter provides an enjoyable action-oriented solo role-playing game that can expand into 3-5 player quests offering deeper player vs environment play. The game’s strength lies in its close ties to Dungeons and Dragons including expansions and events built to incorporate the ongoing D&D storylines. Players willing to cough up some money will find their lives a bit easier through faster leveling or extra loot. The initial focus on a single city helps to tie together the stories told at lower levels of the game, helping to keep things interesting until players reach the endgame of high level raids.

In Dice Stars, players choose dice from a common pool to best fill in their scorepad. Choosing stars is important as they can double or zero out sections of your score. Players roll dice into a common pool and then choose sets of dice in the pool to score on their pad. A quick, 20 minute game provides players with interesting choices to mitigate luck and provide strategic play, while still providing some of the highs and lows of a dice-based game.

Emphasizing story and setting over combat, the 1999 role playing game Planescape: Torment is near the top of every list of all time best RPGs. It flips the genre on its head as you start by waking up from death, without a clue of who you are or where you came from. This information is slowly gained as the story progresses and players have the opportunity to solve most problems without having to resort to combat. Lauded for its story and depth, Planescape: Torment is a must-play game for RPG fans and the new, graphically enhanced edition (playable in 4k!) is a great way to experience it.

In addition to several racing modes on dirt and asphalt tracks, Moto Racer 4 also includes a small bonus, the ability to race (solo) using the PSVR system in either a Time Attack or Hot Lap mode. As with other bonus VR features, the PSVR experience isn’t going to be the main selling point of a game. However, they are a nice way for PSVR owners to experience a small part of their game in a virtual reality mode. Unfortunately, I found the PSVR racing mode of Moto Racer 4 was not a good fit for my gaming style.
