GamerDad and family Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad - and I've been writing about videogames, movies, and children for over 15 years now. After working as a magazine journalist, I switched gears to write about how media violence affects children, educating parents about them, and working closely with magazines, newspapers, major retailers and even politicians. GamerDad is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Games, movies and media are fun, kids and families love them, they aren't going away. So join me in cutting through the hype and lets have a real conversation about the things that matter: Video Games, Violent Media, and their supposed effect on children and families.

I don’t dislike Bioshock 2

Really, I don’t, I’m just having a hard time getting excited about playing it. I loved the first one, with it’s unique setting, compelling gameplay and Ayn Rand meets dehumanized apocalypse story – but I feel like I’m dine with Rapture. This isn’t normally the case with sequels if games I like. I hear it gets awesome near the end but I think i’m going to have a hard time getting there. Knee jerk I’d say this is bloody enough for 15+ but conservatively, go with the rating of M-mature. Anyone played further? Please comment. Yours beneath the waves – Big GamerDaddy

A Question of Advertising/Influence

John writes: “Anyone who says that they aren’t effected by what they view in media, including gaming, is ignorant or fooling themselves. Advertisers know. They pay hundreds of billions of dollars a year to get your viewing time. The money devoted, year after year, to getting in front of your eyes is proof enough that what people see, hear and experience effects their behavior. Parents who buy this stuff for their kids are poor excuses for parents. They should be engaging them in activities that promote their development in a constructive way. They have no regrets though… they are too ignorant to recognize it and lack the morals to guide them”

Jenny & the Giant – Chapter I

jenny1When not playing video games for work, being a stay-at-home parents, loving up my wife and caring for the house – I have a dream. My dream is to become a beloved Children’s Book writer. I’d settle, however, to be published.  I have several small novels finished and out to publishers, including this one. To lay Internet fair use concept and partially to get a reaction or two. I’m going to post the first three chapters of each novel one at a time.  I hope you’ll read it. I hope you’ll let your kids read it.  And I hope, when it gets published, you’ll buy it. This is my first novel ever and it was written when Shrek was so popular. It’s a sequel to Jack & the Beanstalk essentially. PLEASE comment! I have a thick skin. So, here goes, this one is for the 6-12 year olds out there: – Andrew S.Bub (all rights reserved)

Good Point

Billy Commented in an Older Post: Even though they failed to use proper grammar the question was still very valid. I have been browsing this site for a few hours now and feel that GamerDad is very conservative. I believe that if you take Gamerdad’s opinion and knock 3 years off then it would be closer to my suggestion. Then again adding an age is not a good way. Children mature at very different rates. What may be suitable for one 10 year old might not be suitable for the another 13-14 year old, Depending on maturity level. It all comes down to the parent’s in my opinion it is there job, to sit down with the child and see if they approve or not. Sites like these give HUGE generalizations.

Who Am I, What Am I, Why Am I Here?

askgamerdadGamerDad Writes: Since so many websites and other outlets have basically stolen your act, what’s the point of GamerDad.com? You don’t have the money to effectively compete and your audience, while still sizable, is largely silent. So, GamerDad, what’s the point to GamerDad? I mean, you’ve kind of won your battle, haven’t you?
