PAX South 2015: Part 1: Gaming in the Lone Star State
The Penny Arcade Expo, or PAX for short, is one of the biggest gaming conventions open to the public. It’s been around for a good while, but at first it was only limited to being in Seattle. Over the past few years, that’s changed as there have been PAX conventions in Boston and even Australia! And now, for the first time ever, they had a PAX South convention located in San Antonio, TX last weekend! I live near Dallas, TX, so I thought that was cool that they had one so close to where I am! Usually when I go to PAX in Seattle, I only bring one or two people with me. But for PAX South, I had a whole crowd including both my parents, almost all of my little brothers, and a few of my good friends, too! Keep reading to find out everything I did at the show last weekend!

Hey folks! G.P. the GamerPuppet here! For Christmas, Cary got the Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix Collector’s Edition, and he let me unbox it for you! So let’s take a look at all the neat goodies you get inside!
Hola! Amiibos! (Wave Two)
The first time I talked about Amiibos here, I went over the Wave One figures and what they did, so if you missed that, please click here. This time, we’ll take a look at the six figures featured in Wave 2.
Cary’s Top Ten Favorite Guilty Gear Characters!
Recently I played and reviewed the new PS3 fighting game Guilty Gear Xrd –SIGN–. A lot of times when I play a new fighting game, I like to talk about the characters a bit. So here’s a blog about my top ten favorite Guilty Gear characters. Just a fair warning, though. I was in a silly mood when I wrote this, and I usually like characters who are silly anyway so this blog will be a little goofy. Plus I don’t have a whole lot of knowledge of the Guilty Gear franchise. I’ve only played this new game and Guilty Gear Dust Strikers on the DS. And the only reason why I got the DS version was because it was on sale and had silly little mini-games featuring some of the fighters. I have watched some of my friends play the other Guilty Gear games, though. And the characters I listed here aren’t in any particular order of preference. So anyway, let’s begin!
Cary is Looking Forward in 2015!
Cary’s “Best Games of the Year 2014 Awards Show!”
It’s that time again. What I like to do this time of year is write about the best games of the year. Keep in mind that no outside opinions went into the making of this list. It’s just my own picks. And if a game is missing from my list, it either didn’t appeal to me as much, or I just simply haven’t played it yet. Can’t play all the games out there, you know! Plus I do apologize if this list leans toward the Nintendo side. I don’t have an Xbox One or PS4 yet, so you’ll just have to deal with it.
Super Mario 2015 Calendar
Happy New Year! Every year for Christmas I get a new wall calendar to hang up at my work. And this year it was video game related so I thought I’d share it here. It’s a Super Mario 2015 Calendar! Last year I got a Zelda one because the Mario calendar then didn’t look quite as good. There were both Mario and Zelda calendars this year, too, but the Zelda one looked about the same as last year’s, and the artwork in this year’s Mario calendar looked a little better. Click here for a closer look.
Unplugged: The Battle at Kemble’s Cascade (Boardgame)
Boardgames have turned into video games (see Civilization) and video games have made their way into a boardgames (Doom, Starcraft, Age of Empires III). To my knowledge, The Battle at Kemble’s Cascade is the first boardgame designed to capture the nostalgia of playing an old arcade scrolling shooter. Yes, in the game each player controls a fighter pilot desperately trying to defeat enemy ships and collect powerups while avoiding enemy fire. There is even a boss battle at the end, don’t expect to get through the game without using up several of your (albeit unlimited) lives. As a boardgame, Kemble’s Cascade may not quite appeal to the typical strategy boardgamer, but to gamers who remember the arcade shooter genre fondly it manages to recreate much of the experience in boardgame form.

Hola! Amiibos! (Wave 1)
Riding on the popularity of other toys connectable to video games like Skylanders and Disney Infinity, Nintendo has made their own action figures that connect to their games. These new toys from Nintendo are called Amiibos, and the first wave was recently released, fashioned after some of the popular characters from Super Smash Bros. So what do these Amiibo do, and what’re they all about? Well, I have them all (yes I am insane), so keep on reading if you want to learn more.
