Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad - and I've been writing about videogames, movies, and children for over 15 years now. After working as a magazine journalist, I switched gears to write about how media violence affects children, educating parents about them, and working closely with magazines, newspapers, major retailers and even politicians. GamerDad is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Games, movies and media are fun, kids and families love them, they aren't going away. So join me in cutting through the hype and lets have a real conversation about the things that matter: Video Games, Violent Media, and their supposed effect on children and families.

So, if we could see each other you’d know that I didn’t get a haircut or trim o’ the beard for the last 6 months. About 4 months in I was tempted but then realized I could have a little fun. Last Friday was haircutting time. I had a lot of fun with it. Then my best friend Zane got ahold of them and demonstrated that I’ve been underestimating his Photoshop skills. Seriously underestimating them! Come on in bub, mind the claws!Ask GD – Manhunt 2
Got tough questions? I’ve got tough answers! Today we got a question about Manhunt 2 for the Wii – a very controversial title indeed. The question is: Does it make you hungry? Wait. That can’t be right.

Who ya gonna call? Yep – after delays, rumors of cancellations and more, we finally get the video game release of the classic Ghostbusters! Early reviews are calling iot solid if unspectacular on all of the platforms it is hitting (which means basically everything). Other than that … there are some other assorted games, including yet another entry into the Guitar Hero: Quest for Franchise Destruction series, and my ersonal pick – Dawn of Discovery, the latest entry into the excellent Anno series of simulation / adventure games. Check out the list! more…

In honor of Father’s Day, in the month of June on my blogs I’m going to be talking about some of my dad’s favorite video games! One of the games he’s been known to play and enjoy is the Breakout clone Arkanoid. An Important note from GamerDad! UPDATED
The Newest Nintendo – DSi
Nintendo knows when they have a good thing going. They have dominated the handheld gaming market for many years, often with progressive upgrades rather than trying to build up an entirely new user base with each new handheld machine. This spring, they have released the newest upgrade to the DS line of handhelds, the DSi. By removing the Gameboy Advance slot, they have clearly staked out an attitude of looking towards the future rather than the past. Beyond that significant hardware reduction, there are numerous software improvements that make it a larger leap forward than the leap from Nintendo DS to the DS Lite.
Game Review: Space Camp (Wii)
It’s the beginning of summer, and kids across the country will soon be sent to all manner of summer camps. But the one big summer excursion that many kids dream of attending is Space Camp. However, it’s pretty expensive to go, so only a lucky few kids actually get the chance. But now, aspiring young astronauts can enjoy the fun of Space Camp right in their own living room with the Space Camp video game for Nintendo Wii.
This Week in Games: June 7 – 13
Have you recovered from all of the E3 buzz yet? The onslaught of promises that will never meet up with the hype? It was ironic that all week on CNN I was seeing a commercial that featured a salesman teasing with a massive toy truck for a little kid then when the kid signed to buy he got a colored-on piece of paper. Anyway, this week we have a pretty reasonable set of releases, with the violent sandbox multiplatform Prototype, as well as the multiplatform games Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, Virtua Tennis 2009, and Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings leading the way. more…
E3: The After Days
Well, the big video game convention, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 for short), is finally over. I didn’t attend this year’s show, but I read enough news about it that I decided to write a blog about the things at the show that caught my interest. Of course, since my tastes in games are a little out there, I won’t be going over a lot of the big titles shown. Just the ones I like.
